All characters belong to Steph, as they're generally her creations. CHARACTER SHEET FOR: Melda Citizen Character Physical Appearance: Eye Color: dark blue Hair Color: honey brown Hair Length: long and braided Skin Color: fair Weight: 130 Height: 5'1" Age Range: middle aged Gender: female Social Class: Commoner Features: a crook in her nose Birthday: Feb 14 Description: A handsome woman, other than a bend in her nose that would indicate her nose being broken sometime in the past, Melda has mischevious looks and good birthing hips. General Information: Age: 32 Birthday: Feb 14 Last Name: None Vocation: nanny Clan Origin: Eagle Religion: Polytheistic City of Birth: Lurashar Patron Deity: Zin Weight: 130 pounds Height: 5'1" feet Social Class: Commoner <2> Character Level: Citizen (III) Taken From Roster: Sun Nov 5 2000 Personality: Melda is fiery tempered, but kind hearted, and though she has common manners and outlook on life, she's well thought of as a nanny for children. She's honest to a fault -- she lacks a great deal in subtlety and tact. She's also generous to a fault, always trying to help people out whether they want her help or not. Family: Spouse: Yukar Melda's love for her husband Yukar has always been much like the tide that he and her father go on and on and on and on about; after all, fishermen's lives revolve around the tide. He was older and stable and handsome so it didn't surprise Melda that she fell head-over-heels for him. The relationship eventually cooled, then reheated, then cooled, then reheated and then cooled one last time that ended in an angry fight that resulted in her packing her and their three kids up and leaving him. She's very quiet and subdued about the topic of him, unless of course she's ranting about what a blindly foolish idiot he is and how she's always been too good for the likes of him. Mother: Tenca Melda's mother has a wonderful sense of humor and, much like Inea, Melda wishes she would come to Anarinuell. Father: Machi Melda was fairly close to her father and respected him and his opinions. She would try to act more tomboyish than she actually was so he'd be less disappointed that all she was a daughter rather than a son, especially as she is his eldest child. Sibling: Inea(d). Your little sister Inea is a potter in the city of Anarinuell and has recently wed a man that your family is rather suspicious of. You've taken the time to come to the city both for your own reasons, and to check on her and make sure everything is alright. Sibling: Zhurata. Zhurata used to follow Inea around, who in turn would follow you around. Though Inea would get irritated about it, you always felt it was your duty to lead the ragtag group of girls since you are the eldest. You miss Zhurata even if you were never overly close. Sibling: Samnesta. Samnesta was always the baby of the family and you can't help but think of her as such. You always tried to set an example for her to follow even though you weren't overly close while growing up. Child: Omay. Omay was born on March 30th, 9 A.U. Ever since coming to Anarinuell, he's been a handful. He's rebelled against everything and anything Melda's asked him to do. Melda, at first, thought that this was because his father wasn't around, so when Yukar came to live in Anarinuell with Melda, she'd hoped things would get better. Unfortunately, they stayed the same, if not got worse! He even resorted to calling her a Drik worshipper when she was pregnant with Karlana, which made Melda's blood boil. She eventually threw him out of the house, taking his key and telling him to get out, after he insulted her one too many times, and even almost resorted to threatening her. She was afraid for herself and her children. But now, she hasn't heard anything from him in a long time, and she's worried that something might have happened to him in the Shamibelian Air Raids of 24 A.U. She's asked Lady Shenisa if she could help with finding her son, and hopes beyond hope that he /can/ be found. She worries desperately that he might have been taken by the Shamibelians, or worse - killed. Child: Avni. Avni was born on May 22nd, 13 A.U. Unlike her brother, she was very excited about travelling to Anarinuell to live with their Aunt Inea. Unfortunately, Avni did not get much time with Inea, because Inea died soon after Melda moved in with her sister. Avni has been a delight, and has turned out to be a wonderful helper with Melda's younger children, especially with Nestra, when they first moved into the city. Melda thinks that Avni will make a fine mother, when the time is right, but worries about rushing her too soon into her Ceremony of Souls. She wants to take her time, and plan things out just right. Avni proved just how useful she could be when Melda managed to smuggle her children to Lurashar, taking care of the girls while Melda secured housing for them, and the like, since Yukar was left behind. Child: Nestra. Nestra was born on September 22nd of 18 A.U. She's the spitting image of her mother, from her dark blue eyes to her pixie nose and honey blonde hair. She already shows signs of being an impish little thing, and Melda teasingly refers to her as an evil little teffi that Eesha thrust upon her. Nestra is full of curiosity and always wants to learn new things. There isn't anything that she can't be found getting into. If its a box or a container of any sort, she's the first to rush to it and open it up. Like her sister, Avni, Nestra has been a wonderful help. While she's not big, or even old, she tries her best to watch over her younger sister, and now her younger brother. Nestra was particularly afraid during the Shamibelian Air Raid of 24 A.U., though she tried to put on a brave front for Melda. She will likely remember the Griffons flying over head. Child: Karlana. Karlana was born on March 20th, 22 A.U. As much as Melda adores Karlana, she almost wonders if she weren't born on the wrong side of the bed. Karlana is often times grumpy and pouty. She always wants her way, and if she doesn't get it, she fusses. But, when she smiles, which is a rare occassion, it lights up the room. Melda is attempting to slowly work toward getting Karlana in a better disposition. She frets and worries that her daughter will turn out like her eldest son, Omay. The only exception to her usually unruly behavior was during the Shamibelian Air Raid of 24 A.U. She was particularly quiet during that time, and often times clung to Melda's skirts. Being so young during the event, Melda hopes that she'll forget everything that happened. Child: Zintius. Zintius was born on February 2nd, 24 A.U. - just before Melda's own birthday and before the dreaded Shamibelian Air Raid of 24 A.U. He is a quiet child, that smiles often and loves to drool on everything. He is a delight to be around, and Melda loves him dearly. Lately, she's been rather over protective of him; in part due to Omay's actions toward Melda, and also because of the Shamibelian Air Raid. It was because of her newborn child that she relocated her family to Lurashar temporarily. She never left him out of her site. That didn't see to bother the baby though, and it is unlikely that any scarring of that sitaution will remain with him. Child: Norik. Mes Ezarette approached Melda somewhere around the 24th or 25th of December in 24 A.U., asking if she and her husband would adopt baby Norik. He had no family and no place to go. Norik's grumpy mannerisms and demeanor somehow charmed Melda, reminding her of her youngest daughter. She immediately took a liking to him and took him in. He looks to be around 1 or 2 years of age, and seems to be settling in well enough with the family, despite being grumpy. Melda later found out that his birthday is Nov 6, 22 A.U. Other Relationships: Relationship with Bastien: Melda's father's youngest brother, the man has played peacemaker between Melda and her husband. Bastien is a Priest of Firanos, and stays in the Firanosian Temple in Anarinuell. Melda hardly gets to see him because he's usually busy with priestly duties, though he has come to visit a time or two; but that was long before Karlana was born, so he's never met Karlana, Zintius, or Melda's newly adopted child Norik. Relationship with Antonius: Antonius is Melda's brother-in-law, who until recently was married to Inea. When Inea died in childbirth, he offered Melda a job proposition that she just couldn't turn down, caring for his children. After getting to know him for a small bit, she seems to think he's an OK sort. Seeing Antonius's grief, she's come to discover that his love for her sister was genuine. But, despite that, there's things about Antonius that Melda simply doesn't like. For instance, his friendship with that noble Lord Erythes. The man... seems... nice enough, but Melda simply doesn't trust him; and she hardly ever sees Antonius around the house anymore. Its not natural. Relationship with Ziella: Ziella is a cobbler in the city who has offered Melda a job. While Melda did not take the position, she found Ziella to be an amicable person. Ziella also offered to teach Melda a small bit about cobbling and apparelling if she had the desire to learn - hating to make cloth of her own. Relationship with Kamnester: Kamnester is the first child that Inea and Antonius adopted. According to the orphanage, he was born around October 19th in the year 15 A.U. Relationship with Judas: Judas is the first born child of Inea and Antonius. He was born on December 7th in 18 A.U. Relationship with Brennus: Inea had brought Brennus home from the orphanage after outright falling in love with the child during a trip to the orphanage. Antonius was less than pleased, but seems to have somewhat accepted the child. He was born somewhere around February 2nd in the year 19 A.U. Relationship with Antonik: Antonik is Inea and Antonius' second child, born on July 23rd in 20 A.U. Relationship with Ursina: She is a gladiator whom you taught teaching to one day. You have the feeling that while gruff, she's personable when she wants to be, and generally like her. You'd offered to teach her more, and she said she'd seek you out when she was ready to learn more. Melda's never really seen the Bondiun woman since that time, though her offer still stands. Relationship with Shenisa: Lady Shenisa is the first noble that Melda met who she thinks is worth anything. The Lady offered her children raspberry tarts one day, out of the kindness of her heart, and then impulsively invited Melda and her children to lunch. The relationship has since developed and now Melda has found herself asking Shenisa to be her sponsor. While she's still shy around the Lady, being nobility and all, she can't help but find herself liking and respecting Shenisa a great deal. This woman has had a major impact on her life, and she's starting to warm a bit more toward the nobles -- though she's still a bit put off by most. Relationship with Memory of Kemet: Kemet is a Manosik Lord, and thusly related to Lady Shenisa, Melda's sponsor. She's only met him once, thus far, although that one meeting was enough to leave a lasting impression on the Mes. They were in the forum, talking, then he told her to follow him. Being a Lord, she automatically assumed the worst - and being who she was followed him. Once at the manor, he had her shuck some oysters for him; and he proceeded to tell her not to worry, he wasn't going to do anything to her. He then, also, gave her some wool clothing. The meeting was... odd. He didn't much act like a nobleman at all, and Melda's really not sure what to think of him. She was not sorry to hear that he died during the Bear / Gold Dragon riots. She never trusted him. Relationship with Witani: Witani is a Ticanee woman who does wonderful work in carpentry. Melda used her to commission a few items, and is so pleased with her work that she rarely goes to any one else; with exception to finding some cheaper things at the auction house. She even had a pantry commissioned for Mes Jinny from Witani, when she'd expressed interest in needing such an item. Relationship with Jinny: Jinny is a Griffon woman, who was once Chimeran, that Melda worked for on occassion. She did a bit of cooking and light cleaning around the house, and still has the key to the place, but Jinny's stopped paying her after her wedding, so Melda's sent the keys back to Jinny and told her that she might want to take her off the family account - because she's no longer working there. Relationship with Nazeera: Nazeera is a neo-noble, who was once a Bear but is now a Chimeran Rissik. She's hired Melda to be the nanny of her child, but has actually yet to give her a key so Melda can take care of the child. Melda intends to talk to Nazeera to see if she still wants her working as her nanny, as she's perplexed about the nature of her employment. Or was, but never having seen her, she couldn't actually take care of the child. Melda tendered her resignation and instead went searching for other work. Relationship with Deiphobus: Deiphobus is Antonius's brother and lives in the Marcus Estate. He taught Melda how to cook and sometimes helps out with the kids when Antonius is away. Melda knows that he's a Priest of Zin, but beyond that she really knows very little about him, not that she goes out of her way to get to know him any better, but maybe she should given that he sometimes watches after her nephews. Relationship with Jia: Jia is Melda's current employer. They'd discussed employment a little bit before the Shamibelian Air Raids of 24 A.U., and solidified it once in Lurashar, when Mes Jia and Melda met in the Eagle refugee city. Melda is happy with Jia as an employer and was sad to have to tell her she might have a job opportunity she couldn't afford to refuse, if it comes to that. Jia was understandably upset, but Melda wanted to make sure that her employer was well forewarned in case she got the position; which she's very doubtfuls he will. Relationship with Memory of Jennette: Mes Jennette was one of the few Tanelishes that Melda has personally met. What she knew of the woman she liked, though she never really got to speak to her in any great detail. Melda now takes care of her daughter, Jehara, Jennette's first child and only child as she died giving birth to the beautiful baby girl. Relationship with Ishani: Mes Ishani is one of those few people who Melda's met within the Tanelish family. She doesn't know much about her other than the fact that she's a smith of some sort, and has a few children Melda cares for. The Tanelish family is so big! Relationship with Udette: Mes Udette is the mother of Seyhalia and Udettos, two children who are sometimes a handful. She used to employ Melda's son, Omay, and had at one point promised to help Melda find her son, who'd disappeared just before the Air Raids of 24 A.U. She doesn't talk much to Mes Udette, but does like the women from the few times she's encountered her. Relationship with Erythes: This man is, or was, a Lord of the Bear Clan. Melda's uncertain what Clan he belongs to now. What she is certain of is that he's staying in the Marcus Estate as a guest of Antonius's. Melda's not sure what to think about the Lord living in the Marcus Estate either. Afterall, she's been rather apprehensive around the nobility, they make her somewhat nervous; especially after those sponsorship laws were enacted. He made the mistake, one day, of telling her that Antonius had considered tearing her house down because of a simple crack in her wall. That infuriated Melda, and she was silly enough to put her ire toward the Noble Lord. He got the rough side of her tongue, and then gave Antonius a piece of her mind; or as much as a person can given her words were sent through a messenger. She hasn't seen Erythes around lately, and he seemed rather reclusive the last time she saw him, always wearing a helmet on his head. She thinks he might have moved out. Relationship with Endeera: This woman is the head of the Actis Bakery within the Bear District. She has ties to Dame Graciana, or rather had ties until the Dame died, and so Avni raves on and on and on about her, and her exquisite cooking. Mes Endeera contacted Melda one day asking if she could apprentive Avni. They met to discuss the situation, Once Melda was satisfied that the woman wasn't going to try to bleed her of her hard earned stenis, she agreed to the potential apprenticeship - which she knows she won't ever hear anything else about from her daughter once Avni hears. She thinks that Mes Endeera is a nice, polite woman. But she really doesn't expect anything less from a well respected Bear family. Relationship with Ezarette: Mes Ezarette Ishartano works for the Royal Eagle family, which in and of itself is somewhat intimidating to Melda. She'd once interviewed with Clan Leader, then Princess, Zeysani to become her nanny, and it was the most frightening experience in her life. Mes Ezarette, during the second exodus to Lurashar, approached Melda with an offer of sorts. She was carrying a young boy, a toddler really, and stated that he needed a home, and was wondering if Melda would mind caring for the child as if he was her own. Melda took to the child immediately, and instantly agreed to care for him. Later, Ezarette came to Melda with another proposition; to take care of the Royal Griffon children, former Eagle Clan Leader Eve's children, Lady Luna and Lady Juneva. The prospect makes Melda nervous, but she agreed she'd do her best to take care of the children if she was chosen for the position. She hasn't yet heard back from Ezarette on this. She's not sure she wants to follow up the potential lead for this job either. She's too afraid her rustic commoner skills might offend the former Clan Leader Judaniarus. Relationship with Ronosh: This Mer was an initiate of the Temple of Zin when Melda first arrived to the city. From the looks of things, he still is. He was a monotheist who turned polytheist and was cast out of his family for his beliefs that there was more than one god. Melda's met him a few times, read his doctrines even, but isn't sure she likes him all that much. He was always intrusive when she went to the Temple of Zin to pray quietly with her family, always asking questions, so she keeps her distance from him now. Background: My daddy is a fisherman in Lurashar. He always wanted boys to take out with him to sea, but as the gods saw fit my mamma gave him four bouncing baby girls. Me and my sisters didn't take to fishing no how though, and we were a handful, let me tell you. Why, I miss the days in my youth when we'd run around on the docks causing trouble and flirting with the boys. We was innocent and all. Didn't know what we were doing, but boy did we have fun. I remember I taught my sisters how to spit, gamble, and knock back liquor with the boys that hung outside the brothels. But when the Madam approached us and asked us if we wanted to work for her, we ran like the dickens! Anyhow, I married young. Too young. I was only thirteen. All my girlfriends thought I should wait, but I went and had my ceremony of souls early and then got married to a fisherman just like my daddy. Everyone in the family just loved my husband, and so I was happy. At first. But boy, we get into fights. Some real humdingers let me tell you. Over the years they just get worse and worse. Last year he punched me in the nose and I knocked him out cold with my frying pan. This past month he pushed me and I fell right on my backside, but sprained my ankle in the process. Took the kids and left on the spot to come visit my sister Inea. And don't ask me when I'm going back to that lout neither. Thought I'd see about taking up some work here in the big city. I already got me three children, so that's what I'm an expert in -- child care. Though I kin also cook and make shoes a little. They have a fiery relationship, and though he went too far the last time they fought, she thinks that her leaving him will make him sing a new tune. She also wants to meet this new husband of her sister -- this Antonius. She doesn't trust him one bit. On Sunday, December 24 A.U., Mes Ezarette contacted Melda and Yukar about potentially adopting a child into their family. Unotik. Mes Imenope is his mother - the woman who had a child while Sir Draugik was away, obviously out of wedlock. Mes Melda's been charged with taking care of him as if he were her own, and encouraged to rename him. Other: Energy: 5 Energy Reserves: 3420.15 Stenis (Money): 51230.4867 Encumbrance: 10.675 lbs.
