A History of the White Tower on Tales of Ta'veren MUSH

With Additional Notes and Information From the Tales of Ta'veren Timeline Compiled by Saidar and Laurent

Dating Systems and Other Notes

There have been three calendar systems since the Breaking of the World:

A New Era date is given for all events in the timeline.

Dates for events marked (C) are approximated, but should be no more than 50 years off.

Events appearing in text like this are based on information from the Wheel of Time novels or The World of Robert Jordan's the Wheel of Time. All other events are unique to the Tales of Ta'veren storyline.

Most of the events detailed in the history are public knowledge or accessible to anybody willing to spend some time in the library. Personal character information like dates of birth, promotion, etc. may not be public knowledge in-character. Check with the player in question before using this information if you have any doubts.

Events are presented with a Tower-friendly bias, although alternative historical interpretations are usually mentioned.

Members of the White Tower on Tales are encouraged to send additions for the history to Deianeira. Information sought includes personal dates for your character like when you joined the Tower for training or were hired to work at the Tower, dates of promotions, bondings, marriages and births, and suggestions for additional world history events in the past.

The History

1001 New Era (August 21, 2000 - ??)

The White Tower hosts a Farewell to Winter Ball for the elite of Tar Valon. Guests are required to wear the colours white and pale blue or forfeit a small fine to be used for the poor of Tar Valon. Amyrlin Deianeira surprises just about everyone by announcing she is betrothed to Lord Paelitar Vanderode. (Sep 24)

The Ildevwyns in Tar Valon discover that their relation, Faelbin Alaede Ildevwyn has been poisoned, and the Vanderode family is implicated. Amyrlin Deianeira herself sends Althea Sedai to Cairhien to investigate after Althea resigns her post as Assistant Mistress of Novices. The Ildevwyns believe this to be a sign of the Tower's support to them, as Lord Igraesor has been sighted numerous times with both the Mistress of Novices and Amyrlin. The Vanderodes in turn believe Althea has been sent to aid their cause given the Amyrlin's close relationship with the Vanderode Lord Paelitar. (Aug 27)

Daelen D'Moore, bondmate to Keeper Ilyara, resigns as Master Gaidin. He remains in his position as Head of the Tree Path Warders (Aug 24). Not long after, Akorin Gaidin is assigned to the post, a surprise to many given the recent conflict he had had with the Amyrlin. The Hall of the Tower, which normally draws up a list of candidates from which the Amyrlin selects, on this occasion put forward only one name, which the Amyrlin felt forced to accept (Aug 29).

Araine Sedai has a meeting with Accepted Minaka, believed to have died after falling off of a Skimming platform, and learns that the girl is with the Aiel. (Late August)

Amyrlin Deianeira presides over then wedding of Prince Theowyn Versyr and Princess Elyse Kamikatsu on Firstday, 1001, exactly a year and a day after they announced their engagement. (Aug 21)

The Amyrlin is discovered to have slipped out of the Tower for a night of dancing with Lord Paelitar Vanderode. Alshaer and Akorin Gaidin eventually catch up with the pair in Gryfalcon's Pub and Grill (Aug 20).

Gu'drun (Sep 2) and Ginevra (Sep 16) join the ranks of the Accepted

Sande and Einone take the Three Oaths and become Aes Sedai (Sep 13). Sande joins the White Ajah and returns to work with Rowena Sedai on the Tower's farm in Caemlyn. Einone elects to join the Red Ajah. Mary takes the Three Oaths (Sep 16) and joins the Gray Ajah.

Fialanna and her neice Cailet arrive at the Tower, and Fialanna is hired as the new Mistress of Kitchens. (Aug 25)

1000 New Era (April 12, 2000 - August 20, 2000)

Amrik Rinis is found guilty of being a male channeler and is gentled. (Aug 12)

Paedrig Gaidin withdraws from his duties as High Seat of House Roesone to continue his work with his bondmate, Jessalyn Sedai. The two return to Tar Valon, and Glendak Roesone becomes Duke of House Roesone. (Aug 11)

Amyrlin Deianeira presides over the marriage of Captain-General Kellian Versyr to Rowena Sedai (Aug 7).

Althea Sedai and her Warder Brannon become involved in a dispute over the custody of Halraid's infant daughter, working on his behalf. Althea had negotiated with House Roesone on occasion and then on another before seeing the child successfully returned to her father (Aug 1).

House Devorae posts fliers throughout Tar Valon accusing Lord Timosaen Ildevwyn of kidnapping Lady Lyssa Roesone (Jun 6). Siobhan and Saorla Sedai are involved in investigating these crimes and apprehending Timosaen and the others involved. After a period of incarceration at the Tower, Seat of Pardon Saorla prosecutes Lord Timosaen Ildevwyn on charges of kidnapping Lady Lyssa Roesone and blackmailing Lord Alcoran Belmond. Timosaen is defended by Raziah, and judged by Amyrlin Deianeira, who sentences him to 10 years imprisonment. His mother Lady Aistille pleas for mercy, but the Amyrlin says only restitution made by House Ildevwyn would allow for a reduction in the sentence.

Affairs in the world do not long remain quiet after the Dragonsworn are taken care of. There are reports that Queen Aislynn Sedai has been behaving oddly, and she is with difficulty parted from a ring that is believed to have been responsible, at least in part, for this (May 24).

The Queen's Guard crosses the border into Murandy and slaughters miners in the small mining town of Talin's Gorge, exacting revenge for Murandy's flaunting of a treaty signed 100 years ago that no mining is allowed within three leagues of the two countries mutual borders (Jun 19). 300 Murandian commoners travel to Caemlyn to protest this action, and the Queen flatly denies having ordered the action. As a show of good faith she offers them refuge in Caemlyn, but there are many in both Andor and Murandy who feel the Queen is exacerbating tensions between those nations.

Aislynn's three-year-old son, Prince Aranvor, is kidnapped. His nurse and guard are killed, and the snake eyes marking left at the murder scenes of Queen Sydelle and Duchess Cathryn Roesone are found on the scene (Jul 7). A city-wide manhunt eventually results in the capture of the assassin, who turns out to be a woman (Jul 11).

A large Murandian force invades Andor and captures two towns, Lanestown and Valten's Grove, with rumours of atrocities against the citizens being committed. The High Court of Andor is immediately convened, and Andor declares war on Murandy (Jul 11). Rowena Sedai proposes the idea that the Tower establish a neutral triage camp to treat those who will be injured in the likely conflicts to come.

Althea Sedai accompanies Duchess Rennar Hune and her entourage to the Tower after it is decided that the Daughter-Heir should be sent there for safekeeping as well as the traditional training (Jul 13).

Andor faces Murandy in battle, driving the Murandian force outo of the captured towns and back over the border (Jul 18). Aislynn herself leads the next attack on the imposing Murandian fortress in the mining town of Galderan. The Murandians have a larger force than was supposed, and the Andorans are forced to retreat. Queen Aislynn, her Warder Anluan, Lord Nevin Barydar and Jane are taken captive by a force of men dressed in Andoran uniforms (Jul 23). THe Tower's military advisor to Queen Aislynn, Valdimir Sagan, travels to Galderan fortress with a message and is captured (Jul 25).

The Tower Skims additional people and supplies to the triage camp as the fighting escalates (Jul 26). Accepted Minaka falls off the Skimming platform during the trip and is believed to have died. House Vorneyo of Arafel dedicates some of its men to protecting the triage camp (Jul 27). The Tower soon decides to send even more people and supplies, after hearing reports that there may be Dark involvement in the war.

Supplemented with armsmen of Arafel and Kandor, the Andran army attacks the Murandian force in a bid to reach the Fortress where it is believed that Queen Aislynn and the other kidnap victims are being held. When they beat the Murandians back to the Fortress, Captain-General Kellian reports sensing Shadowspawn within, and calls on the assistance of the Tower. After a long and difficult fight the Andoran force wins the day. At the same time, a smaller strike force had found a way directly into the Fortress in search of the captives. There it was discovered that Magnus Trigoran, long believed dead and longer believed to be one of Andor's most loyal citizens, had been the mastermind behind the conflict and the kidnapping of the young Prince. After a pitched battle during which the Queen herself killed Magnus, the Prince was rescued and the strike force and former captives Skimmed directly from the Fortress to the Tower's triage camp. (Jul 30)

The citizens of Murandy revolt when they learn that Shadowspawn were being used in the war effort, and King Renford ousted and believed to have been killed. With no candidate strong enough to seize power immediately, the country descends into civil war while the noble Houses battle amongst themselves to gain control of the throne. With more pressing matters to attend to in their own land, the war effort against Andor is at an end. (Aug 2)

The two men who have named themselves Dragon command much attention from the Tower, and indeed the world. Accepted Daniella had been held in Heronimus' camp for some time before she was rescued by Sev Gaidin and returned to the Tower. Amyrlin Deianeira meets with her for a full report, and based on this and other information, the Tower orders recruitment in the Tar Valon Guard to be increased. Araine and Siobhan Sedai are assigned to campaign for support amongst the foreign nobles in residence in Tar Valon. (Apr 21)

Finally word is heard from Hirama Sedai. She was assigned as advisor to King Kurrad of Illian, but disappeared soon after Dain proclaimed himself there. Injured and bruised, she appears in the camp of the other Dragon, Heronimus. She claims Dain is hungry with power and about to attack his rival. (Apr 28)

No attack comes, but a few weeks later Heronimus moves his forces out of Caemlyn, followed soon after by Dain and his Dragonsworn (May 12). The two are believed to be moving towards Tar Valon, and soon have an eventful meeting. Hirama Sedai is discovered dead in her tent, killed with the One Power, and the evidence points to Heronimus, although he proclaims his innocence and declares the murderer to have been a female channeler. He demands to scan the women travelling with Dain to discover this person. He is reported to have burned one woman to ashes, while another made an escape through some use of the One Power, Heronimus following after her using similar means. There are rumours that this woman named Heronimus as the Forsaken Ishamael before disappearing. Heronimus is not seen again, and many of his former followers then swear themselves to Dain. The Prophetess Tireena, who had made so many proclamations of Heronimus' destiny as Dragon is also discovered missing. (May 13) She later appears at the Tower, where she is kept for questioning and study. (May 16)

Dain continues his journey towards Tar Valon, and believing his destination to be Dragonmount and the Sword it holds, the Tower orders a force of 2,000 Guardsmen and 100 Aes Sedai to protect the peak (May 17). The Dragonsworn arrive on the plain of Tar Valon soon after, a force of some 5,000 men. The Tower sends a slightly larger force to meet it, but before the armies engage, Lord Dain and Amyrlin Deianeira exchange messages in an attempt to prevent bloodshed (May 19). Their negotiations continue the next day, but it soon becomes clear no compromise is possible.

Houses Sulamaad and Ildevwyn send armsmen to support the Tower. The Saldaeans in Tar Valon are divided, half following visiting Queen Beah's orders to align with the Tower, the other half following her nephew Adram to support Dain. (May 20)

The Amyrlin offers the Dragonsworn an opportunity to surrender, which none take. The Tower's opening salvo is an air attack of pepper and sharp spices, a creative tactic to the credit of Cor'sidan Gaidin. The battle is joined. Dain blows the Horn he holds, which he believes to be the Horn of Valere. Although it does not function as one would expect for the Horn of Valere, it is nonetheless a deadly addition to the battle, casting whirlwinds out of its bell. The taskforce led by Siobhan Sedai is able to use these to pinpoint Dain's location and capture him, and the tide of battle turns in the Tower's favour. (May 20)

Dain and the injured Dragonsworn are brought to the Tower. Any Dragonsworn who will swear oaths not to assist Dain or raise arms in his name are released, but many refuse to take the oaths until after Dain meets with Amyrlin Deianeira and Sitters Roseana and Siobhan and orders his followers to take the oaths (May 28).

Royalty and nobles from all the lands, as well as representatives of the Ogier and Sea Folk are summoned to the White Tower, brought thither by the use of the newly rediscovered Skimming weave. They are told only that they are being asked to witness the Tower's judgement of Dain. Once assembled, the Tower again employs Skimming to transport the august group to Dragonmount, where they watch as Dain attempts to draw callandor from its rocky prison. His attempts fail, and he demands that the Tower gentle him immediately. Newly-elected Red Sitter Siobhan Sedai is happy to comply, and grants Dain's request that Keeper Ilyara assist in the gentling weave. (Jun 2) It is later learned that Ilyara Sedai bonded Dain as her second Warder that same night. The visitors are Skimmed back to their homes over the next week.

A few weeks later, the Tower holds a formal dinner and bestows medals and other honours on those who assisted in its campaign against the Dragonsworn. Akorin, Cor'sidan, Sev, Dryft, Falcon and Rogan are awarded the Eagle Ring. Rogan is also offered a commission as lieutenant in the Tar Valon Guard, and Cor'sidan receives the Amyrlin's Grace for his creative use of spices in the conflict. Siobhan receives her third citation of the Order of Mendane, and Dart and Artanis are singled out with the Rose of Eshian for their work rescuing the wounded from the battlefield. Many others are given thanks and praise. (Jun 16)

Caenna Sedai's body is taken from Caemlyn to the White Tower for a memorial service attended by Captain-General Kellian Versyr, Sev, Adon and Orwin Gaidin, Aillande Sedai, Accepted Rowena and Daniella, and Halraid (Apr 20). A group from the Tower Skims to Shienar to bury Caenna Sedai there, in respect to her final wishes. The group included Aillande Sedai, Orwin Gaidin, Halraid, and the Accepted Mary, Raziah and Einone. Orwin fell off the Skimming platform, and the grief of his bond, Aillande, makes it clear he did not survive the experience (Apr 22).

Lord Daric Roesone had been accused of the murder and arrested, under great protest from the members of his House, who believe his arrest to be part of the Tower's campaign against the Children of the Light, of which Daric is a member. (Apr 16) He is later set free.

Later a woman named Mirra al'Nores confesses to the murder. Queen Aislynn sentences her to death in an emergency session of the High Court, although there are some who feel that her confession was not sufficiently investigated.

Roseana Sedai is elected as Head of the Blue Ajah (Apr 25). Siobhan Sedai is elected as Head of the Red Ajah (May 24). Ylanna Sedai becomes the new Head of the Green Ajah (May 30). Althea Sedai is selected as the new Councillor for the Tower to Tar Valon (Jul 6), and resigns her duties as Assistant Mistress of Novices so she can concentrate on her new post.

Araine takes the three oaths. She petitions and is accepted into the Green Ajah. (Apr 15) Rowena, Saorla and Raziah take the Three Oaths (Jun 13) and become Aes Sedai. Rowena selects the Yellow Ajah, and is later made Mistress of the Tower's penance farm in Andor. Saorla chooses the Blue and Raziah the Gray, and both are later made Assistant Mistress of Novices. Hannalyn takes the Three Oaths (Jun 23) and is later made Mistress of the Tower's infirmary (Aug 11).

Einone (Apr 20), Mary (Apr 21), Brias (May 31), Ulmai (Jun 9) and Branwyn (Jul 25) are raised to the level of Accepted. Danear reaches the Proven stage of training (Apr 27).

Accepted Angharad and Sande return to the Tower (Jun 10). Angharad had been a runaway, and was discovered in Mayene by one of the Aes Sedai transporting the noble witnesses to Dain's trial home. Angharad is sentenced to penance on the Tower's farm in Andor for a time (Jun 29 to Jul 31). Sande's absence was with Tower consent, although the reasons for it are not much discussed.

Novices Laurissa and Tamien are sent to the Tower farm. (Apr 15) Novice Cheira runs away from the Tower (May 8). Accepted Einone is injured in a mysterious explosion that destroys her room (Jun 8). Trainee Tone Rambler has a run-in with Akorin Gaidin and is expelled from Tower training (Jun 24). He later takes over management of the Great Tree Inn.

Ragnor Gaidin retires to take up a quiet life on a farm. (Apr 15) Rio Sedai disappears and is presumed dead. (Apr 23) Reports state that she had raised a storm against an attacker while in the Mountains of Mist, but no more than this is known. Dounia Sedai retires from active service to the Tower (May 31).Sylvia Sedai of the Green Ajah dies (May 31), throwing her brother and Warder Ameranth into a near madness of grief.

Neri and her husband Grayfyn decide to divorce (May 21). Araine Sedai and Alshaer Gaidin are married in a simple ceremony (Jul 21).

Kragar the smith, Ceralic the gardener, and Albion the stablemaster all leave leave the Tower's employ. (Apr 15)

999 New Era (November 21 1999 - April 11 2000)

News of the two men proclaiming themselves Dragon reaches the Tower. The hall beings near daily sessions, and an order goes out to step up recruitment into the Tar Valon Guard. Small teams of Warders and Aes Sedai are sent out to try and infiltrate the followers of the two Dragons, and learn more about them. Included in these groups are Rykiele Sedai of the Blue, Qicalia of the Yellow, and Dalton, Jenret and Randal Gaidin. (Apr 5)

Dain's group approaches Caemlyn, the Dragonsworn now numbered in the thousands. They camp east of the city, and only a few of their number go into Caemlyn for supplies and the like. Small skirmishes have broken out between nervous citizens and the Dragonsworn. Alwyne Sedai and her Warder Sev manage to infiltrate the camp a few days later. (Apr 5)

A ball is held in Tar Valon to welcome Queen Beah of Saldaea. Following the ball, the Queen pays a visit to the Great Tree Inn. Tireena, considered by some a mad woman and by others a prophetess, was drawn to one of the patrons, the scholar Heronimus. She proclaimed he had a great destiny. Disaster would fall on Tar Valon should he stay, and that he must travel to Kandor to avert disaster there. Rumours flew that Heronimus might even be the Dragon Reborn. Quinlan Sedai, Accepted Daniella and the scholar Darius, hear of this and manage to insinuate themselves with Heronimus and his followers as they leave Tar Valon. (Mar 26)

Heronimus and the members of his party join the army of defenders prepared to lose their lives in the protection of Canluum in Kandor. The biggest Shadowspawn army seen since the Trolloc Wars descends on them, and the battle goes poorly for the defenders. Explosive air and fire, weapons of the Power woven by Heronimus, turn the tide of battle and soon have the Shadowspawn on the run. Tireena proclaims it all to be as she had seen, and many of the grateful Kandori proclaim Heronimus to be the Dragon Reborn. (Apr 1)

The festival of Saradu is celebrated in Illian. Lord Dain, brother to Novice Minaka, approaches King Kurrad and reveals that he has the Horn of Valere. At the same moment as he is presenting the Horn to King and crowd, a golden dragon appears in the sky against a backdrop of clouds. Dain proclaims himself the Dragon Reborn, and many present take up the call. After Akaina authenticates the Horn, King Kurrad bends knee to Dain and invites him to stay in the Palace. The Tower stops receiving reports from Hirana Sedai, advisor to King Kurrad, around this time. (Mar 29)

Through the use of a few illuminations, Amrik panics a few people in the Tower into believing that his shield was broken and he was able to channel. (Mar 26)

The elderly Queen of Saldaea, Beah, arrives in Tar Valon with her retinue, including Lady Novaria and Lord Torvar. Her Aes Sedai advisor, Maesin Chunes of the Green, is notably absent. The Queen ensconces herself at the embassy run by her nephew, Lord Adram. (Mar 26)

Caenna Sedai is found dead in an abandoned cart in Caemlyn. She was dressed in a simple white shift that smelled strongly of herbs, with a knife protruding from her chest. There were signs that she had been blindfolded and manacled. The knife was marked with the crest of House Roesone. (Mar 20)

The investigation turns up circumstantial evidence against Lord Daric, a member of the noble Roesone family, and also the Children of the Light. He is charged, but his family demands his release in light of the nature of the evidence and their stature in Andor. The investigation continues.

Pinya Sedai and Amyrlin Deianeira learn a clue to the whereabouts of Oludra Sedai and the sapling sought by the Aiel from a dream of Araine's. After a few days of organization, a group of 13 Aes Sedai, 13 Warders, a handful of Accepted and Proven and other Tower members, and two Ogier, leaves the Tower and travels to the Ogier Grove within Tar Valon. There they are met by a party of some 30 Aiel, clearly by prearrangement. Within moments, the entire group has entered the Ways The group includes the Amyrlin Deianeira, Pinya and Calyra Sedai, Accepted Araine and Daniella, Warders Alshaer, Cor'sidan and Nyderalith, and Darius. The Aiel party includes Mohakin, Erindhra, Layha, Melah. Ia'aihn is discovered to have slipped into the Ways with the group, but is permitted to stay.

A few days later, the Tower and Aiel party emerges from the Ways just outside Fal Dara. A smaller group splits off and enters the city to seek out Muria Sedai and any word she may have of where to begin the search. This group includes Araine, Alshaer, Cor'sidan, Nyderalith and Layha, dressed as a wetlander boy.

Eventually they find the dilapidated farm from Araine's dream. The exploration of the farm proves dangerous, and then more dangerous still when they discover Oludra turning the tree to the Dark with the aid of several Fades. A few days after the battle, there is a heated debate over who will take ownership of the sapling of the Tree of Life. The Aes Sedai manage to heal the taint from the tree, which is given over to the custody of the Ogier. The Tower party returns home, with a horribly burned woman. She dies soon after, but few are allowed to see her while she lives or after her death. (Ooc, this is Oludra, who was Black Ajah, but that isn't being made public icly.) It is also noted that Pinya Sedai did not return with the group, apparently preferring to return to her studies of the Blight. (Mar 10 to 25)

The members of the trips to the Mountains of Mist and Caemlyn return to the White Tower, with the notable absence of Caenna Sedai, leader of the Caemlyn group, who had disappeared a few days previous. The Mountains of Mist group had skimmed to Caemlyn, then onwards to the Baerleon, and then travelled south for a few days. On the second day of their two-day journey into the caves they sought, they were biefly attacked by a Fade who killed two guards and a boy before disappearing. Upon reaching the valley, they were attacked by a Draghkar, and Novice Mary's block was broken during the attack. In the valley they discover a large tryptich of three statues, all ter'angreal. The first two reveal the history of the Valley and its inhabitants, the third uncovers a stairway that had been blocked to prevent anyone from entering. Upon heading down the stairs, the party discovered a treasure trove, with relics from the Age of Legends stored in this room. Two Fades attack, and are killed. The group returns to Caemlyn, where they discover Caenna's disappearance, and are joined by the Tower people there to return home. (Mar 14)

Amrik turns himself into the Tower as a male channeler. He surrenders himself to Ylanna Sedai, Nyderalith Gaidin, and Accepted Daniella. Relina Sedai of the Red was later called in as well as several other Red sisters. (Mar 2)

Althea Sedai, Brannon Gaidin, the Accepted Araine and Saorla return to the Tower by way of the skimming ter'angreal. Saorla was returned to serve penance for sheltering the male channeler Amrik from discovery. Althea and Brannon returned as soon as the other two were settled in. (Mar 7)

Roseana Sedai leads a mission out of the Tower. They first Skim Caemlyn, in search of information in the royal library there. The group was made up of 50 people all told, including. Aes Sedai: Roseana, Althea, Marielle, Pepa; Accepted: Araine, Hannahlyn, Saorla; Novices: Thera, Brias, Mary, Gu'drun, Branwyn; Warders: Akorin, Brannon, Revjak; Proven: Palmaral Trainees: Wesley, Cleante, Sage. (Mar 1)

The group travels to a valley in the Mountains of Mist, where they find ancient ruins. Records in the ruins suggest that a group of Aes Sedai from the Age of Legends settled here after the Breaking.

Pinya Sedai returns to the Tower after a long absence, and takes Araine as her personal student. Later she meets with the Amyrlin.

Strange occurrences fly through the night in the White Tower. In the early light of dawn, a wooden chest is found in the hallway outside the Amyrlin's Office. Several of the guards from the last watch before dawn have been reported missing, and what's worse, an abandoned storeroom deep beneath the Tower is discovered by servants to be the scene of a gruesome murder. The walls of the room are hanging with eviscera. A crate has been sliced neatly in half, and there are scorch marks all over the room. On the wall opposite the entry, however, is a large clean area, in the middle of which is a square patch which has been 'painted' with blood and gore to resemble a crude imitation of the fabled painting, Ravan's 'Fall of Pride'.

The missing guards later turn up to be dead, their throats slit across, and when the chest is opened, inside are found the severed heads of seven Aes Sedai. Some are burnt, others look peaceful, as though killed in their sleep. There is one from each of the seven Ajahs, including the tormented face of Ophelia Sedai, of the Green.

The hair has been hacked crudely off of each of the severed heads, and twisted together in a crude imitation of a stole... a stole made up with the hair from each of the seven Ajahs... Inside each of their mouths is a black slip of paper, stained with blood, cut into the shape of the trefoil leaves of Avendesora.

As a search is made of the Tower, it becomes clear that only one sister is not accounted for... the hunchbacked Brown sister, Oludra Sedai. (Feb 17)

Novice Grayce Talone and Trainee Mikel Jessop run away from the Tower together to be married. (Feb 14)

The Tower delegation is received in Caemlyn. (Feb 6)

Novice Ashinteara returns from serving a couple of months of punishment on the farm following an incident of serious disrespect towards a Gaidin. Her attitude seems much improved upon her return. (Feb 8)

Two delegations leave the Tower, one sent to Caemlyn and one to Murandy, to try and negotiate peace between the two before events erupt into war. The Caemlyn group is led by Caenna Sedai and Gaidin Dalton and includes Aillande, Sylvia, Rowena, Bruryn, Adon, Orwin, Einone, Elindrinelle, Asriel, Raziah, Alwyne, Sev, Ameranth and Tone. The Murandy group includes Akivasha, Veratay, Willow, Dunia, Kylin, Aurian and Shaleya. (Feb 3)

The scholar Darius discovers that the original Ravan painting depicting Laman's Sin is in Stedding Tsofu, and sets off for that location through the Ways with a group of Aiel and Ogier, as it is believed the original may contain clues to the sapling sought by the Aiel. (Feb 2) Darius discovers that a figure depicted in the original is Oludra Sedai, who is believed to have taken a cutting of Avendoraldera before Laman chopped it down. (Feb 4)

Brannon earns the cloak of a Warder, although Master Gaidin Daelen continues to keep a watchful eye on him since his unorthadox bonding to Althea Sedai while still a Proven. (Early Feb.)

Saorla faces her fears in the arches and is raised to the Accepted (Jan 29). Rowena becomes Accepted (Feb 2).

Varro en'Sejanor returns to the Tower after a long time spent in Tarabon. He is brought on a stretcher for Healing, and Neri Sedai discovers that he has been slowly poisoned and is near death. She is able to restore him to health, and after a short recovery time spent in her rooms, he returns to working in the Tower kitchens. (Jan 31)

High Councillor Alderic issues an edict of curfew for Tar Valon in an attempt to quell the rash of violence against Arafellin visitors and residents of the city. The dislike of Arafellins springs out of accusations of Darkfriend leveled at two Lords of House Vorneyo, Trandar and Luan. (Jan 23)

Less than a week later, Lord Trandar attacks guardsmen of Lord Luan in the Great Tree Inn, accusing them of injuring his son Bhera. The young lordling was treated at the Tower. Lord Trandar creates more business for the Tower Healers when a young lad named Amani is injured during the bar brawl and Healed by Roseana Sedai. (Jan 25)

Accepted Angharad goes missing from the Tower, and is believed to be trying to run away, just as her mother did before her. (Jan 21)

Neri and Caenna Sedai, Accepted Sande and Novice Rowena fail to show up at various expected classes and chores. They reappear wearing odd costumes and carrying the infant daughter of Davrine (who had gone missing a few days before) around 12 hours later. It is rumoured that they may have been kidnapped after being poisoned on Tower ground itself. (Jan 18)

Several Novices, Accepted and the Amyrlin herself gather to watch Akorin Gaidin put Trainees Wesley and Cleante through their paces. When practice switches to the bow, Cleante's shot misses the target, and hits the Amyrlin in the shoulder. Alshaer's prompt arrival on the scene and his reaction reveal him to be bonded to Deianeira, who is soon after Healed and returns to her chambers to rest. (Jan 12)

Soon after, Adon Gaidin retires from the position of Master of Arms. The Amyrlin appoints her newest Warder, Alshaer Gaidin, to the position. One of Alshaer's first actions is to give Cleante a talking down, and extensive homework with the bow. Some mutter that his treatment of Cleante reflects his bond more than his duty, as the talking down occurred while Cleante stood in front of a target and Alshaer rained arrows around him. (Jan 13)

Lord Sebastian of the Shienaran House Hiroshige arrives at the Tower, grievously injured. Pietr the clerk fetches a Healer for him.

The Council of Tar Valon raises taxes for the wealthy, to support an increase in the size of the Tar Valon Guard. (Jan 7)

Oludra Sedai is overheard in conversation with two Aiel Maidens, arguing the particulars of an agreement with them. From what is overheard, the Aiel are seeking a cutting of Avendesora, the Tree of Life. Oludra has made a great study of plants throughout her life at the Tower, and had been permitted by King Laman to study Avendoradera. (Jan 6)

Quinlan Sedai is selected as the Head of the Brown Ajah. (Jan 4)

Reyan Gaidin goes mad. He is placed for a time in the Tower dungeons, from which he later disappears. It is believed that he has been sent to some quiet place in the country to be cared for the rest of his days. (Dec 18)

Araine is raised to the level of Accepted (Dec 8). Asriel becomes Accepted (Dec 14). Hannahlyn is promoted to Accepted (Dec 29).

Ilyara Sedai becomes Keeper of the Chronicles. (Nov 21)

998 New Era (August 1 - November 20 1999)

Queen Sydelle of Murandy is assassinated in the Royal Palace of Andor, which she was visiting to petition assistance from Queen Aislynn Sedai.

Rio, Caenna and Ilyara Sedai, together with Daelen Gaidin and the students Daniella, Alshaer and Saorla, go on a mission to a small village in the Mountains of Mist to assist Kellian and Talwyn and a contingent of the Queen's Guard. The group travels by means of the skimming ter'angreal recently discovered. They find the village of Tolmec beseiged by a large force of men. (Nov 16)

Dallia Sedai dies of natural causes. Her body is found by her fiance, Dharell of the Silver Flames, in the garden of the house they shared together. Her death is believed to be the result of a heart attack. Dharell disappears from the city following her death. As a member of the elite Silver Flames, his commander, Ebrahim Yasniff, sends guards out searching for him to check that he is well. (Nov 11)

Daniella faces her fears in the arches and becomes Accepted. (Nov 11) Raziah successfully masters the arches and becomes Accepted. (Nov 13)

Caenna takes the Three Oaths and becomes Aes Sedai. She chooses the White Ajah soon after. (Nov 9)

Novice Samira and Accepted Analise leave the Tower. It is believed that Analise failed the test to become Aes Sedai and that Samira has been sent to one of the farms as punishment, but this is speculation. Salador, a seige engineer who had been a paying student at the Tower for over a year, completes his studies and leaves. (Nov 7)

Lord Caeringil Dhulaene Ildevwyn duels Taylon in Caemlyn after being challenged by him over bad manners and insults to women that were present in the Rose and Lion inn. Ranked a blademaster in skill, Lord Caeringil easily skewers his opponent through the abdomen. Taylon would surely have died without the assistance of a gleewoman named Rowena al Tiare, who was spotted in deep discussion with Rio Sedai soon afterwards. (Nov 1)

The Tower learns that there is possibly a male channeler in Tar Valon itself. Amrik, the suspected man, takes a young lad named Emos hostage. Jumping out of a window, he breaks his ankle but manages to get away with Emos before being apprehended. Newly-raised Althea Sedai sets off to rescue Emos, who is in her charge while in Tar Valon, accompanied by Proven Brannon and Koveras. Siobhan Sedai organizes a party of Reds to go after Amrik, accompanied by several Warders. (Oct 26)

Althea Sedai and Proven Brannon discover Emos in a village a day's ride from Illian city. Althea also discovered the boy's features were disguised with a weave, and one created of saidin. Althea, Brannon and Emos then travel towards Caemlyn in the company of a man named Endor, and another called Tell, the son of a gentled channeler held some time at the Tower. (Nov 1) Althea and Brannon return to the Tower a few weeks later. They are accompanied by Dolon, who returns after some over a year spent searching for clues in the foul deaths of Logris and Rhyagel Gaidin, and their bondmate, Kessa Sedai. (Nov 10).

Siobhan Sedai and the force of Red Sisters and Warders who traveled with her in hunt of the male channeler return empty-handed some time later. (Nov 21)

Althea Farrelyn takes the Three Oaths and becomes full Aes Sedai. A few days later she chooses the Blue as her Ajah. Neri Sedai soon after appoints her as Assistant Mistress of Novices. (Oct 15)

The River Erinin becomes clotted with red, acrid-smelling loam that turns it the deep red shade of blood. All of the water sources in Tar Valon are affected. More alarming than the water's appearance is its effect, and a sickness characterized by fevers and turbulent bowels starts to spread throughout the city, and despite the best efforts of wisdoms and the Yellow Ajah, there have been deaths. The High Council orders that all citizens should strain water through muslin or linen and then boil before use. The High Council has confiscated cloth from the merchants in the city and is handing it out to people freely for this purpose. There are rumors in the Tower that the Novice Araine foresaw some of these events in her dreams. (Oct 11)

Teffendar the weaponsmith and his apprentice Alek leave the service of the Tower to become members of a merchant house. (Oct 10)

Elsbet Sedai of the Brown Ajah leaves the Tower on a research mission. (Oct 10)

Alderic Andivell adds a new seat to the Tar Valon Council, with the approval of the Amyrlin. The new Councillor of Dignitaries seat is intended to be filled by one of the noble residents of the city, and will act to advise the High Councillor on the effects of Council decisions on the nobility residing in the city. (Oct 9)

A few days later it is announced that Siobhan Maire Cathasaigh of the Red Ajah will serve as the Councillor for the Tower on the Tar Valon Council. (Oct 10)

A shooting star passes over Tar Valon and the White Tower on Maighdal 25 (Oct 7). Many of those in the Tower at the time raced outside to view the spectacle. The scholar Darius made sketches of the event and assured onlookers that such things were known from the records, often associated with large craters and the stars themselves typically metal or rock, and that many know of them as the Creator's Tears.

As the star passed above, those who could channel were afflicted with headaches. Some experienced only mild pain, while others were near incapacitated, like Accepted Althea. The most severely affected with Tezanya Sedai, who collapsed on the Tower Road. She died moments later, after whispering a few cryptic words to the Amyrlin. In weaving to try and help Tezanya, Siobhan revealed herself to be more than the Novice she seemed. She is in fact an Aes Sedai, and has been for many years. After long years of absence from the Tower she masqueraded as a Novice for a full year, to the puzzlement, even outrage, of many Sisters.

Other cryptic words were exchanged among the Aes Sedai during and after the event. Some wondered whether this was the event Foretold by Angharad. There was also some discussion about dreams that a new Novice, Araine, had spoken of having.

Within a few days of the event, people begin to notice that both the sun and moon appear slightly green in colour. News also begins to arrive of sightings of the shooting star throughout most of the world. As it passed over Caemlyn its falling sparks triggered extensive fires in the farmland surrounding the city, and even within the city itself.

After it is determined that Salia will never again be able to channel, she leaves the Tower, first stopping to say goodbye to the Amyrlin (Oct 6).

Kessa Sedai is attacked while travelling from Tar Valon to Fal Moran. Grieviously injured, she managed to reach Fal Moran, but her injuries finally overcame her and she died before a healer could be brought. She died in the arms of her husband, Lord Sebastian Hiroshige, proclaiming her love for him and their recently-born child. (Sep 29)

Heralds from Illian arrive in Tar Valon to declare that Illian has called the Hunt for the Horn, and invites all Hunters to travel to Illian to receive the traditional Blessing from King Kurrad (Sep 19).

Cetreise Sedai has a Foretelling (Sep 18). As usual for her, it came upon her while embroidering, and was contained in her needlework itself. She awoke out of a trance to find she had sewn the image of a complex knot of many intertwined cords. Once out of the trance she accidentally pricked herself with her needle, spilling blood over the design and marring the perfect symmetry of the knot.

Tezanya Vadanyar of the Yellow Ajah returns to the Tower after an absence of 50 years (Sep 18). She had been exiled by Amrylin Elsbedhe Bodwell. The two had had a long-standing emnity.

Kessa Sedai and her husband Lord Sebastian Hiroshige become the proud parents of Shawn Garen Hiroshige on Amadine 17. (Sep 16)

Angharad is raised to Accepted, despite still being blocked. She has a Foretelling immediately upon leaving the final arches. (Sep 12)

Aislynn Sedai, Queen of Andor, gives birth to her first child. The healthy boy is named Aranvor Caius Vincennes Versyr. (Sep 12)

A group from the Tower travelled to Caemlyn. (Sep 4) The group included Neri Sedai, on a brief sabbatical to visit family, and the Head of the Green Ajah, Ilyara Sedai. Also in the group were the Accepted Althea, Caenna and Salia, Proven Brannon and Koveras, Daelen Gaidin, and "Novice" Siobhan.

Ilyara Sedai met with Queen Aislynn Sedai and her advisor Rio Sedai upon her arrival in Caemlyn. The three consulted on what to do about the matter of a young Hune noblewoman who had sworn oaths to the Dark under duress.

Rio Sedai, skilled in weather weaves, took the opportunity of the visit to teach something of weather working to the Accepted. The four were joined together in a link, controlling a whirlwind, when Rio experienced some pain or emotional distress. She was finally able to break the link, but in doing so lost control of the whirlwind. The Accepted Salia attempted to take control of the whirlwind, but drew in so much of the Power that she rendered herself unconscious. Salia had weakened the winds enough for Caenna and Althea to control them and limit the damage to the city. When Salia awoke, it was discovered that she was unable to channel. Unsure whether this was just a temporary consequence of her over-reaching, or whether she'd permanently stilled herself, she was sent home to the Tower in the company of Siobhan. (Sep 22)

The group's return journey to the Tower was an eventful one (Sep 30). As the party travelled away from Caemlyn, they were beset by a group of Children of the Light. Two of those strange folk with yellow eyes, Rill and Halraid, helped them find shelter in a cabin hidden in the woods. There the group stumbled upon a ring of crystal, which captured the interest of Caenna and Althea. In investigating the ring, Althea finds that a weave of Spirit causes it to open some sort of doorway. When the Children discover the group's hiding place, they turn to the doorway in desperation. Passing through it they found themselves on a platform travelling through blackness, which eventually met another doorway that opened on the Tower grounds. Although much study remains to be made, this was obviously the first step in the rediscovery of the long lost ability to Skim across long distances.

The Hall of the Tower met (Sep 1). Although the topic of their deliberations is not publicly known, all Aes Sedai were soon afterward asked to report any signs that prophecy is being fulfilled to their Ajah Heads.

A large party leaves the Tower soon after, headed by the Amyrlin herself. It includes a number of Sitters, a number of Red Sisters, some other Aes Sedai, Warders and Proven, and a force of Tar Valon guards, and numbers about 300 in total. Ostensibly this is a processional to meet with the Tower-controlled areas of Tar Valon and environs. The group did in fact stop and talk with citizens as it made its way out of the city.

The first day of the processional (Sep 4) was an unexpectedly eventful one. After passing through parts of the city, the processional stopped to talk with citizens in Jualdhe village. During the discussion, a group of ravens began to attack the Tower folk and villagers. This proved to be a distraction for another attack when a crossbow bolt flew through the group. It was believed to have been aimed at the Amyrlin, but flew slightly off-course and hit a Gaidin. He died quickly, and the bolt was believed to have been poisoned. The Warders and Guards quickly began to search for the culprit, but it was the ta'veren Maggae Devarin who accidentally stumbled on the attacker - literally. He had been so difficult to detect because he was one of the Dark One's assassins - a Gray Man. The Warders made short work of him once he was discovered, and the last of the ravens flew off, their mission completed. The wounded were Healed or sent back to the Tower for further treatment, and most of the Aes Sedai, who had spent themselves fighting off the attacks, were also sent back to the Tower, to be replaced by a fresh group.

Once outside of Tar Valon, the group travelled on towards Dragonmount, and then up the slopes of the mountain. This leg of their journey had not been announced in advance, and was not widely discussed once they returned home. (In other words, this info is not known in-character to very many people, it's recorded here for posterity.) The journey continued up the slopes of the mountain itself. Then a party of Aes Sedai used a small boat to reach the island at the center of the caldera lake at the top of the mount, where a sword believed to be callandor sits. There they commanded a young 'woman' of their number to try and take the sword. The 'woman' was in fact a disguised Delanthear, and he was unable to draw the sword from its resting place in the stone.

After completing whatever they had come to Dragonmount to do, the group set off back down the mountain and towards home. Olanthe Sedai, the Head of the Brown Ajah, died during the return journey, of an ailment of the heart (Sep 6).

Emali, the daughter of Daelen Gaidin, is found unconscious on the Southharbor docks. The young blind lad Teiresias who's been staying at the Tower disappears at around the same time, and the two were last seen in each other's company (Aug 27). Tar Valon Guardsman Landor finds Teiresias bound and gagged in the Southharbour district some weeks later. The boy is half-starved and bears other signs of mistreatment (Sept 7).

Adwedia Sedai leaves the Tower on a mission, speaking little to anyone about it. There are rumors that she mentioned traveling to Amadicia, however. Duncan Gaidin also leaves the Tower, to reunite with his ward, Jacinthe Sedai. (Aug 26)

Alastor Haladine-Alclair'Cue is hired as the new Groundsmistress of the Tower, a job usually held by a man. There are some rumors in the Tower that she was once Aes Sedai, although it is clear to anyone with the ability that she cannot channel. (Aug 18)

Ilyara Sedai is elected Head of the Green Ajah (Aug 8). Perseinde is elected as Head of the Blue Ajah (Aug 28). The White Ajah selects Chessa Sedai as its Head (Aug 30).

Rhyagel Gaidin, bondmate to Kessa Sedai, dies on the road from Fal Moran to Tar Valon. It appears that he left the road to assist a farmstead family under attack, only to discover it was an ambush. Although he fought valiantly, he was overwhelmed by far superior numbers. His head was severed from his neck, and found near the body. These circumstances bear a disturbing similarity to the murder of Logris Gaidin, also bonded to Kessa, in the previous year, and the Tower continues to investigate both murders. (Aug 8)

Eireann Sedai of the Yellow Ajah is sent to Saldaea to study the Blight scouts that return from the Blight and fall into a comatose state. She is accompanied by Accepted Gold, who has shown a talent for Healing during her studies. Morius Gaidin travels with the two to provide protection.

Kessa Sedai, posted as advisor to the Shienaran crown for the last year or so, is reassigned back to the Tower. (Aug 2)

997 New Era (March - July 1999)

Maggae Felix Devarin stands trial for the murder of Ceirin Andivell, the High Councillor's first wife. Fennel and Chessa Sedai were two of the three magistrates at her first trial, and declared it a mistrial. The Seat of Pardon was not present to defend her. Jarrue Sedai served as Seat of Rebuke, and surprised the court when she moved to drop the murder charges and instead charge Maggae with other crimes. Maggae was found guilty in her second trial (Jun 7). The means of murder was found to be Maggae's wildcat Mehitabel, and the motive spiteful revenge because she felt Ceirin had usurped her position in the city. On the day of the execution (Jun 24), a riot broke out among her supporters and detractors in the audience. Alderic came out of his coma and rushed to the scene to reveal that Ibaethien Ildevywn had confessed to the crime on her deathbed.

Alderic Andivell marries Lady Ibaethien of House Ildevwyn. Both are poisoned during the ceremony. Ibaethien dies in Alderic's arms, and he slips into a coma soon after. (Jun 3)

Kessa Sedai is poisoned. Jayd finds an antidote that helps her recover.

Ceirin ni Belmond t'Andivell, wife to High Councillor Alderic Andivell, is found murdered in her home during the festival of Sunday. (May 9) Alderic's sister Patreine takes over the administration of the city while he retreats to a country estate to mourn.

Ibaethien Ildevywn petitions the Tower for the release of her noble relation, Daevid. He was first imprisoned under suspicion of abetting the male channeler Delanthear, but had since then exhibited signs of dangerous madness. Kessa Sedai looks into the case. The Yellow Sisters do what they can for Daevid, and then is released into his family's custody at the Amyrlin's orders.

Four Novices are raised to Accepted - Althea (May 21), Salia (May 22), Sande (Jul 17) and Caenna (Jul 21).

Novices Anija, Rachyl and Itara leave the Tower. It is unknown whether Anija and Rachyl were put out, or sent to a farm for punishment. The rumors that Itara has returned to one of the Tower farms to care for her young son seem reliable. Novice Miria was put out of the Tower after three refusals to take the Accepted test. Trainee Jao has quit the training program to return home and help his family.

Fennel Sedai is elected the new Head of the Gray Ajah after Mayumi Sedai resigns. (Apr 30 OOC, a bit later IC) Jacinthe Sedai resigns as Head of the Green Ajah and is currently traveling outside the Tower.

Naya Sedai of the Green, Deianeira's most recent Keeper, has been posted as advisor to Altara. There are rumors that the Yellow Ajah suggested she be sent to a warmer clime for the sake of her health, which has been fragile since birth. Elandra Sedai of the Green has been posted as advisor to Saldaea, accompanied by her Warder, Rhone. There is some consternation among the other Ajahs, particularly the Gray, about the number of recent positions given to members of the Green, Deianeira's former Ajah.

Rhuann Sedai, one of the more venerable Sisters at the Tower, has retired to the country after many years of work at the Tower. Aes Sedai Akuri and Evalyn are currently traveling outside of the Tower. Narissa Sedai has joined the Grays negotiating between Kandor and Arafel.

Logris Gaidin, Warder to Kessa and Master of Arms at the Tower, was found dead on the road during a trip from Tar Valon to Shienar to visit Kessa. His decapitated body was found by merchants, who sent his personal effects to the Tower. Gaidins Keladan and Dolon have been dispatched to investigate his death, which was obviously foul play.

Eoris, servant, and Faison the smith have left the Tower's employ.

Trillian Sedai's obsession with the male channeler Delanthear is so great that it causes her to break Tower Law when she has his shield dropped during an interrogation. She started keeping to her rooms since the incident, presumably on the order of the Amyrlin.

Kessa Sedai's return to the Tower is brief, as she is appointed as advisor to the Shienaran throne soon after her return. Her Warder, Logris Gaidin, splits his time between his ward in Shienar and his duties as Master of Arms at the Tower. During a trip up to Shienar with some Trainees, Rhyagel Gaidin is also bonded to Kessa. Kessa Sedai had only recently lost her ward Killian. (Apr 12)

Amyrlin Deianeira received word in the spring that male channeler Delanthear being hunted by the Tower in Tar Valon might have taken refuge with the legion of Children of the Light camped nearby the city. She sends a small party consisting of Rio, Jarrue, Keritbes, Sarius, Tristan, the Accepted Shantal and twenty other Warders and another Aes Sedai to the camp to discover whether this rumor was true, and if so to have Delanthear placed into their custody.

The Tower party is captured by the Children, led by Lord Captain Commander Alrik himself. Delanthear was indeed with the Children, but escapes with the assistance of Davoust and Ulfrik, who dies during the escape. (Apr 26) Davoust brings Delanthear to the Tower, and both are placed into the cells.

Alrik sends a list of his terms for releasing the Tower captives to the Amyrlin. The Amyrlin responds by assembling a small army of Aes Sedai (200), Gaidin (500), Trainees (200) and Tar Valon guardsmen (1200). The group includes Kessa and Adwedia Sedai, the Novices Salia and Caenna, and Trandar, a visitor to the Tower. The Amyrlin gives Rhyagel Gaidin command of the force, which sets off for the Children's camp. (Apr 28)

The Tower's army and a full legion (2000+ men) of Children faced off on the plains of Tar Valon. To the surprise of members on both sides, the Amyrlin and Lord Captain Commander met each other midway for a short discussion. Deianeira handed Alrik a book, later reported to be the original Way of the Light penned by Lothair Mantelar, and Alrik returned his captives to the Tower. The two armies turned on their heels and walked away from each other without a drop of blood shed.

There were many in the Tower who criticized the Amyrlin's peaceful solution as weakness in giving in to Whitecloak demands. The consternation became all the greater when those Sisters involved in the incident revealed that they had been unable to channel in the presence of the Whitecloaks. The Hall seems less concerned by the situation, and the Amyrlin issued a proclamation that the situation would soon be resolved to the advantage of the Tower.

Two logs of the Children and the Tower storyline are available:

Naya Sedai resigns from the position of Keeper. She has always had a fragile constitution, and the demands of the job are too strenuous for her health.

Rio Sedai travels to Andor to take on her appointed duties as advisor to Queen Aislynn. Rio is accompanied by Prince Jhafir of Arafel, whom she had recently bonded as her Warder.

Aislynn's party enters the city a fortnight after being attacked. (Apr 20) The Queen's parade towards the Royal Palace is greeted with as many jeers as cheers. Aislynn bonds Nicodemus Gaidin as her second Warder soon after her return.

Queen Aislynn Sedai leaves the Tower in the fall to return to her homeland. Her party included her husband and bonded Warder Greydon, a large retinue of Andorans, Maggae and Andrin Devarin and several other prominent Tar Valoners. Several members of the Tower also accompany the party, including Adon and Nicodemus Gaidin, Novices Althea and Aurian, and Trainee Alshaer. The group is violently attacked on the road (Apr 15), but manages to fight the attackers off. Upon closer study, it seems clear that this was not a random group of brigands, but was sent specifically and with purpose.

Trillian Sedai took Daevid Ildevwyn into custody in the spring. (Apr 12) He had been heard naming the male channeler Delanthear Dragon, and was suspected of aiding and abetting him in his escape of Tower justice.

Zalera was confined in the Tower cells for a week or so in the spring. (Apr 10) Kessa, Rhylla, Varro and Sebastian found him ranting about the Whitecloaks in the Lounge, and he had no memory of why he was in the Tower.

Maggae Devarin again appeared at the Tower in the winter (late Mar), this time requesting Healing and aid. She had undergone a personality change during her recent honeymoon, becoming depressed and withdrawn. She was found to be addicted to a substance called dream milk. Adwedia Sedai and Novice Aurian also discovered that she was under the influence of a ter'angreal that used Compulsion. It was a pin that had been given to her as a wedding gifted, and seemed to cause a sense of despair in the wearer. Adwedia and Aurian freed her from the influence of this object and it is in Tower custody.

The Tower begins to hunt for a male channeler named Delanthear in the fall. (Mar 9) He was first discovered by Rio Sedai during a visit to the Great Treen Inn in Tar Valon. Rio and the Gray Ajah boldly took control of the search, despite the strenuous objections of the Red Ajah. The Reds soon petitioned the Amyrlin, who responded by putting Trillian Sedai in charge of the hunt, but still assisted by Rio Sedai as she could recognize the man's face. No further signs were spotted during 996, despite Trillian's zeal in examining virtually every man she met.

996 New Era (January - February 1999)

Maggae and Andrin Devarin brought word to the Amyrlin in the fall (late Feb) of a possible Foretelling. Maggae had overheard a young woman named Angharad speak these words in the inn -

White pitted against white.
Might balanced by might.
Power of old keeps at bay,
The strength of those who hold the way.

The Amyrlin commanded Rio Sedai to seek out Angharad, who soon found herself in Novice whites.

Amyrlin Deianeira selects Naya Sedai, formerly of the Green, as her new Keeper when Marielle Sedai retires. Marielle elects to return to her old position as Head of the Tower Library. Jacinthe Sedai was elected as Head of the Green Ajah. (Feb 9)

The White Tower, Tar Valon, Ogier and Children of the Light are unexpected allies in the rebuilding of the village of Alindaer, which was destroyed when Dragonmount erupted. At the request of the Ogier (Feb 12), Jarrue Sedai leads a party of other Sisters strong in Earth to remove the solidified liquid fire from the village so reconstruction can begin. (Feb 22) In return for this service, the Ogier build a new smithy on the Tower grounds.

An Illuminator named Varro and another man called Lewyn tried to enter the Tower in the spring (Feb 6). Varro announced that Lewyn had purchased a firework from him, and stated his intention to use it to murder Evalyn Sedai. Varro further claimed that he lured Lewyn to the Tower in an attempt to foil this plan. Lewyn was knocked unconscious while trying to escape, and placed in the dungeons. Varro was also taken into custody, but permitted the freedom of a guest provided he stayed on Tower grounds. It was later discovered that Lewyn was under suspicion of impersonating an Andoran noble (Feb 2), and had been placed into the custody of Cronus, a member of the Queen's Guard currently in Andor. Evalyn Sedai had been present at his first arrest. During his stay, Varro asked for work to keep himself busy and useful, and was given a job in the kitchens. There are rumors of some connection between Varro and the Amyrlin, but nobody has been able to substantiate this.

Prince Jhafir, fourth son of King Bromm of Arafel, arrives at the Tower in the early spring, accompanied by Akuri Sedai. (Jan 29) He was sent as a goodwill gesture by his father to demonstrate King Bromm's confidence in the negotiation skills of the Aes Sedai who are attempting to arbiter the dispute between Arafel and Kandor.

Keritbes Sedai led a mission to study Dragonmount once it had cooled (Jan 21 to Jan 28). Her party included her Warder Sarius, Jarrue Sedai and her Warder Tristan, Rio Sedai, the Novices Daniella and Salia, and several Trainees. Their intent studies did not uncover any evidence that the eruption was unnatural. At the top of the mountain, in a caldera hollowed out by the eruption, they discovered what appeared to be a sword embedded in a column of rock. They were unable to remove it or approach it too closely.

Andrin Devarin's firm the Devarin Accountancy is hired to work on the Tower's bookkeeping and other financial matters. He is also retained by the Tar Valon city government for the same purpose, and is appointed as Councillor of Finance. (Jan 29)

Rio, Jarrue and Aislynn were raised to the shawl in a triple ceremony in late winter. (Jan 19) See the log. Aislynn bonds her husband Greydon soon after being raised, and Jarrue bonds Tristan as her warder.

The noble Borderlands visitors at the Tower return to their homelands in late winter. (Jan 13) A party from the Tower traveled to Shienar a few months later (Feb 7) to review the progress of the Arafel-Kandor negotiations and study the reactions of the Shienaran citizens to the return of their King. This mission was led by Narissa Sedai and Keladan Gaidin, who were accompanied by several Novices and Trainees and other Tower folk.

During a visit to the Great Tree Inn, Jacinthe Sedai observes a man named Montgomery trying to attack another man, Bool. Montgomery claimed that he was authorized by the government of Tear to apprehend Bool, who had been convicted of the murder of a noble in that nation. Jacinthe brought Bool to the White Tower after he requested sanctuary and pled for the Amyrlin to hear his case. She did so (Jan 11), and Montgomery, Bool and Jacinthe all gave evidence. Bool himself admitted the crime, and stated it was committed out of a deep sense of injustice at the Tairen laws that allow nobles to abuse commoners. Since there were no exonerating circumstances like self-defense and no legal improprieties, the Amyrlin ruled that Montgomery's actions were legal and gave Bool into his custody. However she also ruled that Montgomery himself would be guilty of a crime if he committed any violence against Bool while on Tar Valon soil. Bool later escaped his captor.

Early in the year, it is noticed that Neri Sedai's husband, Grayfyn, is exhibiting some odd behavior, and his eyes seem to be turning a golden shade. People with similar symptoms are discovered soon after. One, a young girl named Mariel seems half-wild and doesn't speak. Another, Lien'oth, is even wilder, and also doesn't seem to speak. The two are brought to the Tower for study. Lien'oth is eventually confined in the cells after attacking an Aes Sedai and her Warder. A woman named Rhylla is later also brought to the Tower because her eyes are golden as well, although her behavior, like Grayfyn's, is much more moderate. She escapes soon after, with the assistance of an accomplice.

The Red Ajah's claims that these people are male channelers or affected by male channelers are not shared by any from other Ajahs. The Yellow Ajah's assertion that this must be some strange form of illness are given more credence, although as yet Eireann Sedai and the other Yellows making a study of these unusual folk have found no evidence to support the claim. Elsbet Sedai of the Brown and Jarrue Sedai of the Gray have also made some study of these people.

995 New Era (November - December 1998)

Dragonmount erupted during the celebrations of the harvest festival of Bel Arvina. The lava flowed over the plains towards the city, destroying the outlying town of Alindaer before being quenched by the waters of the Erindrelle River. As the lava hit the water, the ancient sign of the Aes Sedai was briefly seen in the sky, formed of smoke and steam. Many people, both within and outside of the Tower, take this as a sign of turmoil to come, and possibly even a sign from the Prophecies of the Dragon. The White Tower, Tar Valon and a camp of Children of the Light nearby all took in refugees from the destroyed village.

Amyrlin Deianeira inaugurated Alderic Andivell as High Councillor of Tar Valon in the fall. (Nov 29) The public ceremony in the courtyard of City Hall culminated in a display of the Illuminator's art, and was followed by a private reception of notables held in the Tower. Alderic had been elected a couple of months previous, after his predecessor Serbitar retired to focus on his business pursuits.

Prince Greydon of Andor and a large retinue become guests of the Tower soon after the Shienarans arrive. Greydon has traveled to Tar Valon in hopes of persuading the Tower to release his wife Aislynn from her studies so that she can return to govern her homeland, which is in increasing turmoil due to her absence, but his words fail to move the Amyrlin. The Tower does take some interest in the Andoran party's reports of oddities encountered during their trip through the Ogier Ways.

Shinear's Queen Regent Tabitha, her children and a large Shienaran retinue traveled to the Tower in the fall, where they were received by the Amyrlin. (Nov 15) Representatives from Arafel and Kandor also traveled to the city, where the Shienaran nobles and the Tower continued attempts to negotiate the conflict between those nations. Little headway was made.

Queen Tabitha brought two other things with her for the Tower. One was a packet of information from Pinya Sedai, who had been studying the Blight. No Shadowspawn activity has been spotted within or near the Blight for more than a decade. The other was several catatonic men, scouts who had returned from Blight forays only to fall into a stupor. The Yellow Ajah was assigned to study these men, but have made little headway.

While on an outing in the city (sometime in Dec), Tabitha and her children stumbled into a violent brawl at the inn between the lords and another man. The Shienarans recognized the man as the long missing and thought dead king of Shienar, Saagen. He seemed not to recognize them and called himself by another name. He was arrested, but at the request of the Shienarans was brought to the Tower rather than thrown in a cell. He started to get some of his memories back, but the Yellows said it would take time, there wasn't much the Power could do. The Tower confirmed that the man was Saagen and not some kind of imposter or mistaken identity. It turned out that the lords had attacked each other and Saagen stepped in to stop it. The severely injured lord was Healed in time to save him.

Tales of Ta'veren MUSH reopens on November 11, 1998. The in-character date is the fall of 995.

Marielle Sedai of the Brown Ajah is appointed as Deianeira's new Keeper early in the year after the venerable Agathe Sedai retires. Soon after, Pinya Sedai retires from her duties as Mistress of Novices and returns to her studies of the Blight. An unusually young sister, Neri Sedai, is chosen to replace her.

994 New Era

The citizens of Andor grow increasingly restless and unhappy about the absence of their Queen. Aislynn is at the Tower studying, as she was unable to attend while Daughter-Heir, as is traditional.

993 New Era

Aislynn is raised to Accepted, to the surprise of many who assumed she was only at the Tower to maintain the traditions and ties between Caemlyn and Tar Valon.

991 New Era

Aislynn Versyr, Queen of Andor, arrives at Tar Valon accompanied by her brother Theowyn, her husband Greydon and a contingent of the Queen's Guard. Aislynn and Theowyn enter the Tower for the training they had been unable to take prior to Aislynn's ascension to the throne, as is more traditional. Prince Greydon returns to Andor to govern that nation during his wife's absence.

990 New Era

Queen Aislynn marries Greydon Pyrrhus. Several Tower notables are in attendance at the ceremony.

989 New Era

Serbitar is elected High Councillor of Tar Valon after Morant retires to a Murandian estate with his wife Esancha Sedai.

988 New Era

High Councillar Morant marries Esancha Sedai amid city-wide celebrations.

Aislynn Versyr, her brother Theowyn and Greydon Pyrrhus return to Caemlyn incognito. They are sheltered by House Hune, where they begin rallying the support of other noble houses and Queen's Guardsmen for Aislynn's claim to the throne against the usurper Moergan. Word of their return begins to spread, and the populace splits into two factions. Aislynn's supporters stormed the Royal Palace in the spring and capture Moergan and her supporters, ending the 13th War of Succession. Aislynn is officially coronated in the summer.

987 New Era

Aislynn Versyr, Daughter-Heir of Andor, and her brother Theowyn begin the journey to Tar Valon for the studies that are part of the traditional compact between Andor and the Tower. Their party is ambushed at the same time as Queen Arian is assassinated back in Andor. Aislynn and Theowyn manage to escape with the aid of UnderLieutenant Greydon and two other Queen's Guardsmen. Theowyn is gravely wounded in a skirmish during their escape. An Ogier stonemason happens upon the survivors, and takes them to his stedding to recover. Moergan of House Errene claims the throne of Andor in the wake of the believed loss of all members of ruling House Versyr.

A border dispute breaks out between Arafel and Kandor. Fighting between the Borderlands is virtually unheard of, and is attributed in this case to the unusual quiet of the Blight. The strip of land making up the border between Kandor and Arafel is mountainous, but recently has been discovered to be rich in precious metals. The area currently controlled by Arafel between the Kandori border and the River Erinin belonged to Kandor until they ceded it to an Arafellian noble house about 450 years ago, as recognition for the heroic and sacrificial defense of Kandori lands from a Shadowspawn army. That particular noble house died out several years before the Blight went quiet, and its lands reverted to the Arafellian crown. Once the Blight no longer occupied Kandor's attention, they approached Arafel with the fact that the land had been given to that particular noble house, not to Arafel as a whole, and, as such, the land should have been returned to Kandor after the demise of the house. Arafel, of course, would allow nothing of the sort. Kandor moved troops into the area, and Arafel responded in kind.

With the presence of so many soldiers in such a confined area, it was inevitable that border clashes would break out, and they have from time to time. No one really knows exactly what started any of them, and losses were light, but neither side has backed down. Observers attribute the incalcitrance of both nations to the Borderlanders empahsis on honour, with neighter country willing to risk dishonour by backing down or conceding many points in negotiations. Shienar began hosting negotiations soon after the conflict started, and the Tower sent numbers of Gray Sisters to the north to negotiate.

982 New Era

Deianeira Sedai of the Green Ajah is raised to the Amyrlin Seat. Tower rumor has it that she was a 'compromise candidate' for the Hall, the one person there were the fewest objections to among the Sitters. Her tenure is informally known as the 'Era of Illumination', since she was born an Illuminator. Her supporters use the term sincerely, but those who take a dimmer view of her decisions are apt to use it somewhat sarcastically. She selects Agathe Sedai, formerlly of the Red Ajah, as her Keeper. Agathe had also served as Keeper to both Elsbedhe Bodwell and the previous Amyrlin.

Roseana Sedai's ward, Tarsin, dies. Although no official report is ever made as to the cause of his death, rumors consider it to be at the hands of Shadowspawn. Roseana herself will say no more than "He saved my life, as he agreed to do if ever was needed."

981 New Era

Amyrlin Elsbedhe Bodwell dies of natural causes.

980 New Era

Rumors circulate that Roseana has taken a ward, a young Illianer named Tarsin.

979 New Era

Morant is elected and inaugurated as High Councillor of Tar Valon.

978 New Era

The Aiel War culminated in a battle at the walls of Tar Valon. It is variously named the Battle of Tar Valon, the Battle of the Shining Walls, the Battle of the Nations, the Battle of the Red Snows, and the Battle of the Blood Snow.

The forces of eleven nations, Tar Valon and the Children of the Light banded together in the Grand Alliance (also called the Grand Coalition) to oppose the Aiel.

Amyrlin Elsbedhe Bodwell is unable to persuade the fractious fellow members of the Alliance that the sensible course would be to allow the Tower to lead the forces. Instead the Alliance agrees to decisions made by council, with the forces in the field led by a different general each day.

Deianeira Sedai sits on the Grand Coalition to represent the White Tower in the temporary union of nations that have banded together to oppose the serious threat of Aiel. Valdemar al'Rik represents the Children's forces in the Coalition. Deianeira bonds Arliss as her Warder when the fighting reaches the city of Tar Valon. The main battle ends with the death of Laman Damodred, after which point the Aiel leave this side of the Spine as swiftly as they had entered it.

976 New Era

The Aiel pour out of the Waste and begin attacking the nations of the civilized world, beginning with Cairhien.

Deianeira Sedai is assigned to coordinate the Tower's contributions to the Aiel War. At the time of her appointment, this was not an unusually plum posting, as it was commonly believed both within and outside of the Tower that the Aiel would quickly be defeated and removed as a threat.

960 New Era

The Tower successfully negotiates the Fifth Treaty of Falme between Arad Doman and Tarabon. Although not officially assigned on this mission, Roseana arrives in the area and shows up for several of the negotiation sessions, mystifying the official delegation as to the reason for her presence.

Amyrlin Noane Masadim dies of natural causes. Elsbedhe Bodwell of the Gray Ajah is raised to the Amyrlin Seat. She selects Agathe, formerly of the Red Ajah and Keeper to the previous Amyrlin, as her Keeper.

One of the new Amyrlin's first actions is to order Tezanya Vadanyar, a Sitter for the Yellow, to resign her seat. Tezanya slapped Elsbedhe, and was posted to a meaningless assignment in Arafel for her disrespect.

953 New Era

The Tower sends a group of Aes Sedai and Warders to the aid of Malkier. That nation had been weakened by internal strife, and was then attacked by a mighty force of Trollocs and Fades from the Blight. The Aes Sedai party arrives too late to save Malkier. Rather than admit that they failed, information that they even tried is suppressed from the general population. Ophelia Sedai was one of the women who went on this mission. Note that this information is not spoken of outside of the circles of Aes Sedai and Accepted and is not common knowledge.

950 New Era

Noane Masadim, a Sister of the Blue Ajah, is raised to the Amyrlin Seat. She selects Agathe Sedai of the Red Ajah as her Keeper. (From this point back into history the order and names of the Amyrlins are for the most part those listed in The World of Robert Jordan, with the addition of a few more Amyrlins in the Tales world.)

949 New Era

A covert mission to Amadicia goes badly awry. The mission was composed of a Yellow Sedai, her Gaidin and Accepted Ophelia. Only Ophelia survived. Later that year she was tested and raised to the shawl, where to much surprise she selected the Green rather than the Yellow Ajah.

943 New Era

Ophelia is raised to the Accepted.

941 New Era

Ophelia is discovered to have the ability to channel and is brought to the Tower for training.

939 New Era

Deianeira Sedai returns to the Tower after the death of her Warder, Keown. He was killed by brigands while scouting ahead. After several years of mourning she begins her political career at the Tower.

909 New Era

Deianeira bonds her first Warder, Keown. The two spend thirty years in the Blight and Borderlands.

906 New Era

Deianeira is raised to the shawl and joins the Green Ajah.

859 New Era

A Sister is stilled for crimes in defiance of White Tower law.

843 New Era

Roseana is raised to the Shawl, and selects the Blue as her Ajah.

840 New Era

Roseana is raised to the Accepted. The Gray, Red and Blue Ajahs continue to take a particular interest in her.

838 New Era

Roseana De'locani is enrolled as a Novice, and several Ajahs take an active interest in her due to her potential strength.

833 New Era

A male channeler named Ivian Tendalle proclaims himself Dragon in Ghealdan, where he gathers supporters with suprising alacrity. His movement also touches portions of Altara and Murandy. A party of Red Ajah is sent out to capture him. A young Siobhan Sedai is a member of the party. The group meets Cetreise as they are returning to the Tower with Ivian in tow, and she becomes a Novice upon her arrival at the Tower.

600 New Era

The last occasion where a Sister passed her Warder's bond to another Sister without his consent.

306 New Era

Amyrlin Serenia Latar is hanged by the Children of the Light. Her body was already dead before hanging, but the Children take great delight in their 'accomplishment' nonetheless.

329 New Era

A political scandal that came to be called "Rianice's Folly" rocks Tar Valon and the White Tower. The three Aes Sedai seated as Councillors for the Tower, Rianice Togawa, Jayne Morne and Kusiko Iharo, made the charge that Amyrlin Emberly Thandrick had delegated away her authority, and refused to acknowledge the Amyrlin's authority before the Council. All three were subsequently exiled.

276 New Era

Serenia Latar is raised to the Amyrlin Seat. She was formerly Gray Ajah.

50 New Era (C)

The Farede Calendar is adopted.

-18 New Era, 1117 Free Year

The War of the Hundred Years ends. 24 autonomous nations have been carved from Hawkwing's former empire - Almoth, Altara, Amadacia, Andor, Arad Domon, Arafel, Cairhien, Caralain, Gheldean, Goaban, Hardan, Illian, Irenvelle, Kandor, Kintara, Mar Haddon, Maredo, Malkier, Mosara, Murandy, Saldea, Shienar, Tear and Tarabon.

-29 New Era, 1106 Free Year

Amyrlin Daraille Condartica refuses to ratify the High Councillor selected by the people of Tar Valon. She is within her rights to refuse him, but this is a right rarely exercised.

-51 New Era, 1084 Free Year

Amyrlin Deane Aryman dies after falling off her horse. Her death was particularly tragic as she had come close to restoring unity to the world by persuading the warring nobles to accept the leadership of the Tower.

-141 New Era, 994 Free Year

Artur Hawkwing dies, his maddened hatred against Tar Valon still so strong that he refuses the offer of Aes Sedai Healing which might have saved him. His death plunged the the world into the War of the Hundred Years. His seige of Tar Valon did not end with his death, but contined under the command of General Souran Maravaile. Amyrlin Deane Aryman skillfully persuaded him to abandon the seige, then went on to restore the prestige of the Tower.

Souran takes his armies to Caemlyn, where he marries his lover Ishara, the daughter of Hawkwing's provincial governor of Andor. Ishara wins the support of the Tower in her claim of holding Andor by enacting a law promising to send the eldest daughter of each Andoran ruler to the Tower for training, and a second law requiring Andoran rulers to have Aes Sedai advisors.

NOTE - Some historians claim that it was actually Ishara who persuaded Souran to break the seige of Tar Valon, but the Tower considers this a specious attempt to sully the name of one of the most legendary Amyrlins in Tower history.

-142 New Era, 993 Free Year

The Tower library sustains moderate damage in a freak fire. Note that claims of outside historians that the fire was set by Aes Sedai to conceal records from Artur Hawkwing are completely erroneous.

-143 New Era, 992 Free Year

Amyrlin Bonwhn Meraighdin is deposed for crimes of malfaeance. She is stilled and put to work as a scullery maid in the Tower.

-160 New Era, 975 Free Year

Throughout the spring and summer, Hawkwing's forces attack the territory of Tar Valon. Soon the city itself is under seige. Even the common people who so loved Hawkwing recognized that this was unjust and smuggled supplies into the city, and many nobles supported the Tower as best they could.

In the spring, Artur Hawkwing puts a price on the head of any Aes Sedai who refuses to renounce Tar Valon, and demands that they transfer their allegiance to him. (Those historians who claim there is no evidence of the latter demand are woefully uninformed.)

-161 New Era, 974 Free Year

In the fall, Artur Hawkwing suddenly takes against the Tower. He dismisses not only his personal advisor, but all Aes Sedai serving in positions of authority within his empire.

Hawkwing's relations with the Tower had been strong for the past few years. He made wide use of Aes Sedai throughout his empire, and several served as governors of provinces in the empire.

-167 New Era, 968 Free Year (C)

Hawkwing's wife, Queen Tamika, has the audacity to refuse a summons from Amyrlin Bonwhin. (The rumors that it was in fact Bonwhin that refused to see her, and that Tamika was a 'renegade Aes Sedai' are utterly fictious.)

-171 New Era, 964 Free Year

Hawkwing and the Tower once again come to agreement that he will keep an Aes Sedai advisor. Her name has been lost.

-172 New Era, 963 Free Year

Hawkwing controls all lands from the Spine to the Aryth Ocean, except for Tar Valon. All of that land was taken through conquest except for the area of modern Tear - the High Governor of the Stone declared for Hawking, and dissent among the nobles made it easy for him to claim the rest of Moreina. The Wars of Consolidation ended.

Hawkwing's enemity towards the Tower grew during the Wars, simply because his enemies had Aes Sedai advisors. However, he wisely made no open move against Tar Valon.

-174 New Era, 962 Free Year

Hawkwing sends his advisor, Chowin Tsao Sedai, away.

-186 New Era, 954 Free Year

Chowin Tsao of the Green Ajah is assigned as Hawkwing's advisor.

-192 New Era, 943 Free Year

Three nations sent troops against Shandalle, Artur's homeland in the summer. They sensibly feared the future career of a man who violated the sovereignity of Tar Valon and refused an audience with the Amyrlin. Hawking not only repelled the attacks, but conquered most of their nations before winter weather forced an end to fighting that year. The common people in those nations and others acclaimed Hawkwing as a mighty hero and flocked to his banner. And so the Wars of Consolidation began. (Also known more simply as the Consolidation.)

The forces of Guaire and Hawkwing encounter each other unexpectedly in the spring. Hawkwing's army was supplemented with soldiers from Tar Valon and Aes Sedai, but still numbered roughly half of Guaire's. The tide first ran strongly in Guaire's favor, but Hawkwing's clever use of tactics allowed the Aes Sedai close enough to capture Guaire, and his army began to collapse as news of his capture spread. The Second War of the Dragon was ended.

Hawkwing sped his forces towards Tar Valon, and then into Tar Valon itself, in flagrant violation of White Tower Law regarding foreign armies on its soil. The Sisters that traveled with him faced harsh penances for allowing this transgression. Amyrlin Bonwhin Meraighdin gave him five days to rest his army and remove them from Tar Valon soil. Guaire was tried and sentenced to stilling. Even as he was awaiting sentence, two separate armies marched on Tar Valon with the aim of freeing him. Naturally these foolish attacks were easily thwarted by the White Tower's forces. (And not by the armies of Artur Hawkwing as is sometimes alleged by historians with a bias against the Tower.)

By the start of the year, Guaire's forces have added Kharendor, Dhowlan, Farashell, Shiota, Nerevan, Esandra, Fargansea and Moreina to the lands he holds, and have begun a seige of the Stone of Tear. That fortress survives only with the assistance of 30 Aes Sedai he took refuge there when the rest of Moreina fell. Talmour and Khodomar were also under strong attack, and fighting had begin in Masenashar, Dal Calain and Aldeshar. Many cities not yet under his control are plagued with rioteous mobs proclaiming for him.

-193 New Era, 942 Free Year

Artur's command is distinguished - he has never lost a battle against Guaire's forces, although a few have ended in stalemate. By this time he had earned the nickname of Hawkwing. His personal banner was a Golden Hawk, and the flag of Shandalle three golden hawks in flight, but it is said the name was given not for this, but because of the speed with which he was able to maneuver his armies to where they were most needed.

-194 New Era, 941 Free Year

Every nation in the world that is still sovereign of itself sends forces against Guaire. Shandelle was one of the first to send out an army, under the command of King Artur.

-196 New Era, 939 Free Year

Guaire Amalasan proclaims himself Dragon Reborn in Darmovan in early spring. He raises a banner marked with the ancient symbol of the Aes Sedai on a field of blue, and names his followers the Children of the Dragon. Within a year he captured the nations of Darmovan, Balasun and Elan Dapor, beginning what came to be called the War of the Second Dragon.

An epidemic of Black Fever sweeps the land, killing one in ten people. Deaths would undoubtedly have been higher without the efforts of the Yellow Ajah. Artur Paendrag inherits the throne of Shandalle after both his parents die of Black Fever.

-233 New Era, 912 Free Year

Artur Paendrag Tanreall is born to King Paendrag Maregore and Queen Mailinde Paendrag Lyndhal, rulers of Shandalle. He later becomes known as Artur Hawkwing.

-493 New Era, 642 Free Year

The Tower library sustains minor damage in the Great Fire.

-784 NE, 351 Free Year

The prominent False Dragon Davian is defeated and gentled.

-901 NE, 351 Free Year

Amyrlin Aressa Huandle, raised from the Blue, faces great opposition from the Hall of the Tower. Her Councillor for the Tower to the Tar Valon Council was Isiko Maroyo, and she supported a proposal to allow accomodations in the city for an army led by General Urias Tenly and his notorious wife, Lady Marinde, the "Serpent Lady of Aldeshar". The Hall successfully blocked this proposal by exercising a rarely-used right to elect Vice-Councillors for the Tower, two Red sisters who opposed the proposal.

-1093 New Era, 1350 After Breaking (C)

The Trolloc Wars end with the defeat of the Shadow forces in the Battle of Maighande. The victory is not without price, as the Compact of Ten Nations is in ruins after 350 years of fighting. Only five of the original nations survived, and within one hundred years they fell to internal turmoil as new nations were born around them. Only the White Tower and the city of Tar Valon that it governed remained intact, and in fact gained significant influence and lands during this time.

The False Dragon Yurian Stonebow is killed or gentled.

-1143 New Era, 1300 After Breaking

Yurian Stonebow proclaims himself the Dragon Reborn.

-1153 New Era, 1290 After Breaking

The Trollocs make their fourth attempt to take Tar Valon. The White Tower sustains minor damage.

-1243 New Era, 1200 After Breaking

The nation of Manetheren falls to the Shadow forces. Its brave men had heroically held out for days longer than anyone imagined they could, waiting for reinforcements from their allies, which never came. Queen Eldrene felt the moment of King Aemon's death, and fought back as only an Aes Sedai can. Aided by a sa'angreal, she drew on so much of the Power that she killed herself, but in the process rained down weaves that killed the Shadow forces where they stood. She and the city were consumed in flames.

Amyrlin Tetsuan, raised from the Red Ajah, is deposed, the first Amyrlin to meet that fate.

-1293 New Era, 1150 After Breaking (C)

The once-great city of Aridhol becomes Shadar Logoth. It falls not to the Shadowspawn, but to an evil harbored within. A man name Mordeth convinced King Balwen Mayel to use the Shadow's tactics against the Shadow. Its citizens became hard and cruel, until society collapsed under the weight of its own suspicion and hate.

-1443 New Era, 1000 After Breaking (C)

Trolloc hordes sweep down out of the Blight, commanded by Dreadlords - male and female Darkfriends with the ability to channel. Armies of human Darkfriends also joined the force. The first city to fall was Barsine, in the nation of Jeramide.

-1993 New Era, 450 After Breaking (C)

The White Tower captures Queen Sulmara of Masenashar. She is charged with the crime of impersonating an Aes Sedai, and is sentenced to spend the rest of her life working in the White Tower's stables as punishment for her effrontery.

-2107 New Era, 336 After Breaking

The False Dragon Raolin Darksbane is defeated and gentled.

-2108 New Era, 335 After Breaking

Raolin Darksbane proclaims himself the Dragon Reborn. His deluded supporters have the audacity to attack the very White Tower itself. Naturally this attack was a pitiful failure.

-2234 New Era, 209 After Breaking

The Compact of the Ten Nations is formed. It is also referred to as the Covenant of the Ten Nations, or the Second Covenant or Second Compact. Queen Mabriam of Aramelle, an Aes Sedai, was the driving force behind the Compact, and the Tower played a large role in her success.

-2241 New Era, 202 After Breaking

Construction of Tar Valon is completed.

-2243 New Era, 200 After Breaking

The Toman Calendar is adopted. Historians record events having occurred "After the Breaking" or AB.

-2345 New Era, 98 After Breaking

The construction of Tar Valon and the White Tower begins. Much of the work is done by Ogier stonemasons, and they are given fairly free rein. The city is fully planned prior to building, and constructed for a vastly larger population than it begins with. The White Tower itself was designed by the Aes Sedai, and thus stands out all the more from the rest of the buildings in Tar Valon. It was created by the Ogier in concert with Aes Sedai wielding the One Power. Construction on both city and Tower lasts for a solid 104 years.

The governing bodies of the Amyrlin Seat and Hall of the Tower are already in place at this time. Elisane Tishar is the first Amyrlin Seat.

-2396 New Era, 47 After Breaking

The female Aes Sedai come together and resolve to construct a new city as the seat of their power. The location selected for the new city is an island known as Tar Valon.

-2443 New Era, 0 After Breaking

The Breaking ends as the last male Aes Sedai dies.

-2543 New Era, -200 After Breaking (C)

The male Aes Sedai who took refuge in the stedding create the Ways as their gift of thanks to the Ogier. They are consumed by madness after leaving the shelter of the stedding. Some Aes Sedai believe that the sanctuary of the stedding only increased the damage of the Breaking. Others hold that it saved the world because it spread out the channeling madness over a longer period, but one of less intensity.

The last joint work of male and female Aes Sedai is the creation of the Eye of the World.

-2843 New Era, -300 After Breaking (C)

Lews Therin and his Hundred Companions seal the Dark One and the Forsaken inside Shayol Ghul. This heroic action ends the War of Power, but begins the Breaking of the World as the Dark One's counterstroke tainted saidin at the moment of his imprisonment.

-2853 New Era, -310 After Breaking (C)

The War of Power, also called the War of the Shadow, begins as the Dark One's forces begin their conquests.

-2958 New Era, -415 After Breaking (C)

The Bore is drilled into the Dark One's prison, and he is able to touch the world. Dreadlords and Forsaken are recruited and begin preparing for a war to conquer the world by producing Trollocs and other Shadowspawn, creating weapons, etc.
