- Here you will find links to home
pages of players of Tales of Ta'veren, and there are also
a few characters with Web pages of their own! Send us your URL
today so we can add your page!
The World of Tales of Ta'veren
In November, 1998, when we reopened, the in-character date was Fall,
995 NE. The history of Tales of Ta'veren diverges significantly from
the books from the end of the Aiel War (in 978 NE.) The characters and
plots from the books are not are part of the game - we are exploring
our own characters and stories. We even have our own version of the
Prophecies of the Dragon!
The following links outline the forces currently at work in the world
of the MUSH.
- State of the World
- The State of the World document
details social and political activities at work in the various
nations of the world. You can use these larger events as a backdrop
for your role-play on the MUSH. The
current issue outlines events
that occurred between Fall 995 and Fall 997 NE.
- Prophecy
- The Prophecy page outlines the
various prophecies and prophetic characters in the world, including the
Prophecies of the Dragon.
- The Tattle Tales Newsletter
- All the news that's fit to print, and some that isn't, the
Tattle Tales newsletter
is your guide to recent events in the story of the MUSH, and also
includes some useful out-of-character information like the Coder's
Corner.
Open areas are those places and cultures that are "onscreen" on the
MUSH. These are the places where characters can live and work and
where the bulk of role-play is concentrated. Many of the areas have
their own Web pages.
-
The Aiel
- The open Clan on Tales is the Shaarad Clan. Four warrior societies
are available - the Maidens of the Spear, the Black Eyes, the Stone
Dogs and the Red Shields.
-
Caemlyn, Andor
- A prosperous and just nation, Andor is probably the culture easiest
for those who haven't read the novels to play in.
-
The Children of the Light
- The Children travel the world in their mission to bring people into
the Light. Currently many are posted at a camp some miles from Tar
Valon. The Children have also purchased a farm near Caemlyn and have
an embassy in Shienar.
-
The Dark
- The forces of the Dark work behind the scenes of every nation and
every group, luring in new recruits with promises of eternal life,
riches or revenge.
-
The Illuminators' Guild
- The Illuminators guard their secret of fireworks production well,
allowing few into the Guild who were not born to it. Illuminator
characters on the game are members of a Guild embassy in Tar Valon.
- The Mercenaries' Guild - CLOSED!
- The Mercenaries' Guild has been closed. Players are welcome to play
independent mercenaries who sell their services to interested buyers,
but no guild of mercenaries currently exists.
-
The Ogier
- The open stedding is Stedding Maotai. It is located just above the
Kinslayer's Dagger mountains in the Spine of the World, so it's
between Tar Valon, Sunridge Hold and Fal Moran.
-
Fal Moran, Shienar - CLOSED!
- One of the Borderlands, Shienar stands ever vigilent against the
neighbouring Blight. Fal Moran is currently closed. It may or may
not reopen in the future. Players are welcome to create Shienaran
characters, and the Web pages are made available as a tool to aid in
that.
-
Tar Valon
- The most magnificent city in the world has no native culture, but is
a melting pot of all the peoples of the world, and an important
financial and merchant center. If you want to play a character from
a culture not yet opened on the game, come live in Tar Valon!
-
The Tinkers (Tuatha'an)
- Dedicated to lives of peaceful non-violence, the Tinkers keep to
themselves, travelling the world in their colourful wagons. The
River Band is open and accepting members on Tales.
-
The White Tower
- The Tower is at the center of the web of political machinations
woven by the Aes Sedai, but it is also a great center of learning.
It houses the most magnificent library in the world, and trains
future Aes Sedai and Warders.
Organizations are player-run groups that people can belong to, like
noble and merchant houses, guilds, etc. Many of these have Web pages
where you can learn more about them.
These links will help you learn more about the people and places that
make up the world of Tales of Ta'veren.
-
A Map of the World
- Dark's colourful and detailed map illustrates the location of
nations and important landmarks. The original
book
map is now available at Tor.
-
The Illustrated Wheel of Time Worldbook
- The Worldbook outlines the culture of each nation and cultural
group, as well as providing general information on such topics as
the nobility, travel, recreation, marriage, etc. The Worldbook is
lavishly illustrated with artwork from Wheel of Time fans on the
Net and Tales players.
-
Calendar and Holidays
- The Wheel of Time year is the same length as a real year, but is
sub-divided differently. There are also many unique holidays. A
graphic calendar is also available.
To view this information on the MUSH, type the following while
connected: info calendar and info
holidays.
-
The Exhaustive Aiel
- Bryan Davis, a member of Tales, has put together this wonderfully
detailed resource about the Aiel.
-
Atha'an Miere (The People of the Sea)
- A collection of information about the Sea Folk.
The Wheel of Time world is not a peaceful one, and many men make a
living by serving as soldiers, hiring out as guards or working in the
Town Watch. These resources may be of interest to warrior characters.
- A Compendium of Weaponry and Military Costuming of
the Wheel of Time
- A wonderfully detailed look at the weapons and armour used by
friend and foe in the Wheel of Time world, illustrated with pictures
and diagrams of the weapons and armour. It has been updated to
include information from A Path of Daggers
-
The Swordforms
- Each of the swordforms on this list has been described by volunteers
at Tales of Ta'veren to provide a guide for role-playing sword
fighting on the MUSH.
-
Military Strengths on Tales of Ta'veren
- This page includes a chart and other information outlining the
military strengths of each nation and people, and their military
specialties.
Tales of Ta'veren follows most of the history established in the
novels up until the end of the Aiel War in 978 NE. However, there are
other customized history events further back, as well.
Tales of Ta'veren History
- This information is not currently available on the Web. Please type
the following on the MUSH to read more about Tales history:
info history and info timeline.
-
Logs of Tales of Ta'veren Role-Play
- A log is like making a home video of a role-play session to preserve
it and allow others to enjoy it. Logs are a great way to find out
about important events that have occurred on the game. All players
are welcome to submit their logs to the site.
The following links are timelines that Wheel of Time fans on the Net
have compiled. NOTE: You may not want to read these timelines
until you've read the first four to six books in the series.
-
A Timeline
- The first half is a timeline of events that occur prior to the
books. The second half is a timeline of events that occur in each
book, and so has little impact on the world of Tales of Ta'veren.
-
The Unofficial Wheel of Time Chronology
- A detailed timeline which currently includes information taken from
The Eye of the World, The Great Hunt and The
World of Robert Jordan's the Wheel of Time. The author has
plans to expand it in the future.

- The Wheel of Time Concordance
- The Wheel of Time Concordance is a very comprehensive collection
of notes on the novels related to the Wheel of Time setting, compiled

Save As from the File pull-down menu while you have the page
loaded on your screen.

- A reference guide to aspects of the Wheel of Time including
cultures, the One Power, prophecies and characters. The references
are brief, this does not go into the same amount of detail as the
Concordance.
-
Abilities and Limitations of Channelers
- Some notes on the various inate abilities of channelers, and
limitations and uses of the One Power, with examples from the books.
All players of channeling characters are required to read this
and role-play accordingly.

- The Old Tongue dictionary is a collection of Old Tongue words and
phrases found in the novels. Also of interest is a
letter from Mr. Jordan about how he derived the Old Tongue,
and a
chart of similarities between the Old Tongue and modern earth
languages. This dictionary is an expanded version of
the first
Old Tongue dictionary compiled by fans.
