Prophecy on Tales of Ta'veren
As Tales of Ta'veren MUSH follows its own stories, it also has
its own unique prophecies, including our own version of the
Prophecies of the Dragon. Information on the prophecies available
and the types of characters who have access to them is found below.
Wheel of Time Novel Prophecies
NOTE: The prophecy discussed on this page all
refers to the role-playing game Tales of Ta'veren,
not the Wheel of Time novels themselves. Information
on prophecy in the novels is available elsewhere.
Knowledge of Prophecies
The existence of prophecy is something that is widely known. Most people
in the main world area know there is a collection of prophecy called the
Prophecies of the Dragon, most Aiel know the Prophecy of Rhuidean exist,
and most Sea Folk are aware of the Jendai Prophecy. Knowledge of the
content of these prophecies is more limited, as noted
under each prophecy type below.
The Prophecies of the Dragon
The Prophecies of the Dragon, also called the Karaethon Cycle, are a
collection of prophecies related to the rise of a messianic figure who
will be both the world's only hope in the Last Battle between the forces
of Light and the forces of the Dark, and will also be the destroyer of the
world as we know it.
The majority of people in the world have not read and would not want to
read the Karaethon Cycle. To speak of it or own a copy is considered
"dirty" in many communities, and is even banned in others, such as Tear.
Some scholars do make a study of the Prophecies. Most Aes Sedai are at
least passingly familiar with them, and some study them in greater depth.
The Aiel and the Sea Folk, who have prophecies of their own, take little
interest in the Prophecies of the Dragon. If it is appropriate for your
character, you can read the Tales version of the
Karaethon Cycle.
The Prophecy of Rhuidean
The Prophecy of Rhuidean is an Aiel prophecy. The exact prophecy is known
only to the Chiefs and Wise Ones who have survived the
trip through the columns at Rhuidean, although some general ideas of the
prophecy have filtered down to the Aiel community as a whole.
The Tales version of the Prophecy of Rhuidean is not yet available, but
will likely be consistent with the information in the novels.
The Jendai Prophecy
The Jendai Prophecy is a Sea Folk prophecy, and is available to all Sea
Folk, but is rarely spoken of to outsiders. It speaks of the rise of a
figure called the Coramoor.
The Tales version of the Jendai Prophecy is not yet available, but will
likely be consistent with the information in the novels.
A traditional Sea Folk story, the Legend of the
Jade Eye would be of note to most Sea Folk.
Dark Prophecies
Although it is not widely known, the forces of the Dark have prophecies of
their own. On Tales these are collected into the Shadar'akh Grimoire. Only
the highest-ranking Darkfriends have access to the complete Shadar'akh
Grimoire, they choose to share individual prophecies from the Grimoire
with lower-ranking Darkfriends at their discretion.
Prophecies from the Shadar'akh Grimoire are given out to high-ranking
Darkfriends as they become available.
Prophetic Abilities
There are also individuals in the world who have prophetic abilities. How
these abilities work and the level of knowledge about them is indicated
below. Note that the visions seen by individuals indicate possible
futures if all variables continue on their present paths. Unlike in the
books, visions are not inevitable. This alteration is in place to
accommodate the reality that things change in role-play.
Visions related to plots on the game are disseminated to seer characters
by the administration and other plot runners. Individuals are welcome to
create visions related to their characters or personal role-play to give
to seer characters they meet in-game.
- Foretellers
- The Foretelling is a Talent possessed by certain channelers. As with
most Talents, the number of channelers with this Talent had been
dwindling over the past thousand years, but has recently seen a
resurgence. The way the Foretelling manifests can vary with the
individual - many receive Foretellings in words or poems, but there are
other variations. Nynaeve in the books perceives future events as
weather patterns, we have a character on the game who receives her
Foretellings as images that she embroiders. Tower characters and anyone
who has a strong IC reason for having much knowledge about the Tower and
the abilities of Aes Sedai would be aware of the Foretelling ability.
- Dreamers
- The Dreaming is another Talent that manifests only in channelers.
Until recent years when several of the new students at the Tower were
discovered to be Dreamers, the Tower had not had a Dreamer in its midst
for 400 years. Tower characters and anyone who has a strong IC reason
for having much knowledge about the Tower and the abilities of Aes Sedai
might be aware of the Dreaming ability. Note that on Tales Dreaming
and Dreamwalking are two separate Talents, and Dreamwalkers do not have
visions of the future.
- Viewers
- The Viewing ability manifests only in non-channelers, and is
something that has only recently begun to be seen in the world. The only
people who have any knowledge of it are Viewers themselves and those
to whom they've chosen to reveal anything about their ability. It's not
an ability the Tower has any knowledge of as yet, and there are no books
on the subject, although there may be scraps of knowledge from the Age
of Legends and other historical eras that might give some clues as to
the existence of this Talent in the past.
As mentioned above, Tales of Ta'veren follows its own unique characters
and storylines, so the prophecy discussed here has nothing to do with the
prophecy and plots from the Wheel of Time novels. The following links are
provided for those seeking information on the prophecy from the books.
